I was considering purchasing the limited (100,000) metal 2-disc special edition of Akira, but I had a question about the packaging. Is the tin a slipcover like T2:Ultimate or is it one of those goofy Anchor Bay tins that doesn't stand up?

I don't have any experience with the AB tins, but the Pioneer tin of Akira will stand on it's own given a sturdy base.

The tin case for Akira is slightly different from the Anchor Bay tins.

For the Anchor Bay tins, there is a jewel case sitting in a thin plastic tray inside the tin.

But Akira has a special tray designed to hold 2 DVDs inside the tin. One slightly overlapping the other and you place the DVDs inside the tin. This means that the tin case is the only "official" means of storage for these discs. Unless you have jewel cases for each disc.
