Stumbled across this link at a gaming forum I browse and thought it was quite bizare. I'm really not too sure what this could mean to the professional websurfer but I'm thinking either the websites have to fork out some cash or be prepared for some unorganized webpages.

Any thoughts?

Well, if SBC wants to spend $100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.99 suing the owners of every other website in the world for the next 1,000,000 years, let them do it!

There's zero chance of this patent being enforced. They know that they can't afford to go around suing everyone to enforce it, that's why they are asking 'nicely' for their little 'tax'.
