Hey all,
What are these "multi-channel Inputs" on the back of the RX-V550 and on the RX-V650 there are "Pre-Outputs" also. What are these used for? I'm thinking maybe to add an extra amp for a certain speaker...or something, someone please explain?!?!?!

Thanks,

Jay

The multi-channel inputs are for multi-channel formats/sources like DVD-Audio and SACD.

The pre-outputs are direct pre-amp outputs for the various channels – center, front L/R, rear center, rear L/R, subwoofer. Yes, you can use them as a connection point for outboard amplifiers. Generally, that's what they're their for.

The multi-channel inputs are for the 6 analog outputs from a dvd player . Usually for dvd-a or sacd players or universal players. You hookup through those, and use multi-channel mode, to listen to the HiRes 5.1 surround tracks on dvd-a or sacd music discs.

The pre outs are for hooking up a pre-amp. I have another receiver hooked up to mine, that way, to power the sixth speaker, for my 6.1 setup. It works great! :)
