Like most of us with huge DVD collections and not enough time, we don't always watch the films as soon as they are purchased. My ritual is unwrap the DVD to make sure everything is okay (no cracks, broken spindles, glue on disc etc.), pop it in the player to make sure it plays then take it out and put it in its appropriate place on the shelf alphabetically to watch at a later date.

Yesterday, I decided to watch BUffalo Soldiers which I had purchased about three weeks ago and went to the shelf and it wasn't there!!! It should have been between Betty BUckley Live At The Donmar and BUll Durham. Well, I did the usual searching everywhere including looking under the couch, in back of the shelving in case it fell etc. to no avail.

Finally, I went through my entire DVD collection (not an easy task) starting with the A's working toward the Z's and ..... bingo! ..... I found Buffalo Soldiers inexplicably between Owl And The Pussycat and Pacific Heights. Don't ask me how it got there, obviously it had to have been me with a brain cloud but if it's happened to anyone else I'll feel better. I'd hate to think senility is starting to set in!

Besides mis-shelving, I accidentally left some porn where my mom could find it before moving away from home. So no more Action Sports Sex 7 or Asian Chow-Down.

Wow, I never thought of putting DVD's in order.

Something I can do away from home - they wouldn't last 5 minuites around here.

I'm going to be so metro...

Sometimes, when I've spent a bit more than I should have, and have stashed a purchase in a drawer or cupboard until the trail is cold, I forget about it, then a few weeks later, I can't even remember where I hid them :b

So far they've all eventually come to light.

PS to Chris - lotsa people are looking for the Meaning of Life :)

I have been loaning out my collection to a few friends. I wanted to watch The Pianist the other day and realized that was one of the DVDs I had loaned out.

I used to be very good about alphabetising my DVDs right after I purchased them. Now that my collection has exceeded 300, I am running out of storage space.

With me just upgrading my Netflix account for more rentals. And now having more movies to watch per night, it is starting to get out of hand and I am constantly searching for DVDs.

I'm normally really good at keeping track of what movies I've loaned out, using DVD Profiler (since my collection sits at around 500 discs now). The other day, however, I went through my whole collection title by title and found that I'm missing The Big Lebowski and Ben Folds Five: The Complete Sessions At West 54th. The strange thing is... I sort of remember loaning them out, but I can't remember to who. And I obviously didn't log it into Profiler, because they're not shown as out.

So now I'm hoping that someone will eventually realize they have them and return them. I've called the usual suspects, and none of them have my discs. I guess it just means I'll have to be more careful about logging in loaners in the future.

With 2 daughters any organizational efforts on my part are quickly overridden by their superior skill for disorder.
