Rhett Miller, front man of pop/rock band Old 97's, is releasing his debut solo album Tuesday, Sept. 24. I found an advanced copy at a local used CD store earlier this week...and this is a darn good little pop/rock album. Filled with catchy little ditties from beginning to end, most of these tunes have that stick to ya kind of appeal. Miller is a guy that knows his way around a good melody, helped along here by the production of Jon Brion. Definitely a power poppy kind of flavor with some slower tunes mixed in as well. This album would bring a smile to the faces of Marshall Crenshaw and Nick Lowe, those two having laid down tunes likewise back in the 70's and 80's. The album is released on a major label...I guess they can get it right every now and then!
