Indeed, cliches are THE way NOT to think of something intelligent to say when critiquing a film! Hell, they're not the way to write either! Happens in other places too; As much as I like the show American Chopper it totally drives me nuts when Paul Jr. on says "It really gave me the chance to take it to the next level."
I also cringe whenever I hear Roger Ebert (as much as I love reading his reviews) say that actors have "chemistry". Years ago Sharon Stone was asked to define the term & she said "a science that studies the properties of substances". Since then, I cringe whenever someone uses that euphemism.
