I agree. Everyone blames bad timeslots on failed shows. Something has to go in every timeslot. I think it would make more sense to put the cheap shows in the harder slots so that they actually turn a profit.

Is it really, though? The examples of 'Cheers' and 'Seinfeld' have been brought up, but we don't know anything about the other shows that premiered the same season as those that didn't get similarly renewed. It may just be possible that they yanked shows just as quickly if they were expensive and performed poorly then as they do now, and eventually "24" will just go down like 'Seinfeld' as one of those great shows that almost died.

The problem with SKIN was not that it couldn't overcome Monday night football in the ratings, The problem was that it could not overcome WB and UPN's Monday night programming in the ratings.

I was starting to like the show, but I doubt a different timeslot would of helped much, if at all. In it's first week it was shown twice (and the second showing was announced before the first Monday ep. even aired) and yet the number of viewers for both showings combined failed to match the viewership numbers for that week's Extreme Makeover or Seventh Heaven.

I do wish they had at least aired the 8 episodes that where completed. Or at least moved the show over to FX for the remaining 5 episodes and see if it faierd any better with the late night cable crowd.

Part of the proble is that networks I don't feel have adjusted their standards for what is and isn't a good rating. There are more channels than ever competing for views so the average ratings are not going to be as high as they were say 10 years ago. That is 1 reason Monday Night Football's ratings aren't as high as they used to be, there is more to watch on TV. I'm not sure what would be considered an acceptable rating, I'm sure it would be different from show to show, depending on production costs and time slot and stuff, but shows just aren't going to get the types of ratings they were years ago.

You can also add M*A*S*H to the list of shows that almost got canceled before they took off. I don't believe it was a ratings winner its first year or so.

I also heard a news blurb on TV that Fox received pressure regarding Skin because it had to do with the porn industry. They implied that this was another reason for the cancellation.

The porn industry was mentioned in Skin but they never showed anymore Skin than you seen in any other Adult oriented show.
Thats a big cop out.

No, but you might notice that Fox really toned the porn references in the advertising down a lot between May and October - it was pretty clear in the early advertising what he was involved in, not at all later on.

2 Episodes. They didn't even show them in order. They showed #4 and then #2(which was a flashback episode with clips of #1 in it)
