What's the difference between a Humvee and a Hummer?
Since I served as a truck driver, or as the Army puts it, a Motor transport operator , I can tell you. "Hummer" refers to the civilian models and "Humvee" refers to the military ones. "Humvee" comes from "HMMWV", a military term for "High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle".

I never drove a Humvee. But I did drive a CUCV. "Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle." These are the Chevy pickups and Blazers in the civilian world. I also drove the M917 Dump truck.
