Hi,

I'm helping my brother shop for a new 7.1 receiver. He has $600 to spend (fairly hard cap, maybe add a bit for tax, but not much). What are the best options? He's going to be more comfortable buying something new than used, although buying a "last year's model" would probably be ok. Things like auto-calibration would be great, but I'm not sure if that can be had for so cheap (it couldn't when I bought my receiver a few years ago, but I haven't kept up with things too closely).

I would think you could get the Marantz SR5500 for around $600? That's what the 5400 was listed at, did the raise the price a bunch?

I'm using a Pioneer 1014 which you can get for around $400 in my 2nd HT room. Really nice piece....THX Select, MCACC, DPL IIx. You might want to give that a look and put the extra dollars in your pocket.

You can get the Yammy 5790 for $500 or the 5760 for $400. Both are excellent receivers.
