CRITERION FLASH SALE Starting OCTOBER 20, 2020 Noon ET for 24 HRS

Just received an email announcing the FLASH SALE starting tomorrow at Noon ET. In the last couple sales no PROMO CODE was needed and prices have automatically been changed to 50% after the sale starts.

50% off MSRP (not current/Usual price) all in-stock movies -- DVD, BD, Includes Eclipse set, but not general merchandise. Backorders and pre-orders usually haven't been allowed. Items will go OOS so don't wait too long though the last few sales, many things did come back into stock at least once if not several times during the sale.
The website usually gets hammered in the first couple hrs so be patient.

Free Shipping at $50 in the Lower 48 US otherwise $6.95 flat rate shipping USPS or $8.95 UPS
Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, PO Box, APO/FPO USPS PRIORITY MAIL
FREE SHIPPING has always been calculated before applying any promo rewards or Gift Certificates are deducted. I think it's also pre-tax so 49.97 + tax isn't free.

No International orders other than Canada
. The last few sales, a CA site obstructedviews.com has run a parallel sale of 40-50% off items with lower shipping costs and shipped from within
the borders so faster and no worries about extra customs fees.
DHL Express $23USD Flat Rate
Customs and Brokerage fees added by Delivery Service/Collected at Delivery and are the responsibility of the customer

Sales Tax has been expanded and now required for Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Washington D.C., and Wisconsin.

Criterion Loyalty program -- $50Gift Cert for every cumulative purchase of $500 even if it takes 5 years. In the past those loyal rewards certs are sent via email almost immediately and are eligible for immediate use.
If you are close to $500 and have enough total items, I'd suggest making an order just big enough to qualify for the Loyalty Cert plus FS, then make another $50+ order with the extra money rather than make one large order and then have to wait 6 months for the next flash sale though the GC/Rewards don;t expire. You can load them into your account and the $$$ will be there next sale.

Released since last Criterion Flash Sale -- all $40 MSRP except as noted

Thanks a bunch, David!

I now have 3x $10 coupons for this -- Criterion had recently sent out yet another for their Channel subscribers.

This will be my first time ordering directly from them...

Isn't Pierrot le fou also a re-release?

Yes -- splitting hairs probably, but I think this a new/updated transfer rather than mostly just a repackaging. I think Army of Shadows is technically a sl different transfer based on the same master and from reports is basically identical. If you have the original release of AoS there probably isn't a reason to re-buy. Pierrot le fou is a little harder to answer that question.

Good Luck with the certs (assuming they're all from teh Streaming sub) -- somebody posted that they had changed their redemption policy and is only allowing one of those per order. I know in the past those were stackable. I'm not convinced they won't all work in one order, but just a heads up to look for that as a possibility

Yeah, they mention one per order. I'm ok w/ that. Of course, if they're actually stackable, that would be awesome, but not expecting that.

For anyone interested, I highly recommend Portrait of a Lady On Fire among recent releases. It is a stunning film and Criterion really delivered with an excellent disc for it.

That being said: am I correct that if I'm only going to get one title, the shipping cost would essentially defeat the discount? I'm looking at Parasite, but since I don't need anything else right now, it seems like I might as well just keep my Amazon order.

If you just going to order a single, then the Flash sale isn't going to work well for you due to the shipping. Even with 2 reg items, that still doesn't qualify for Free Shipping.

Not sure what the general Amazon price is, but if B&N sale starts around Nov 1 it might be worth waiting and getting the them there -- either pick up in person or ship them (BN Free Shipping is $35)

My pre-order price for Parasite is $27.99+tax, unless they lower it some more between now and its shipment next week.

If I got two from B&N, it would be something like $40. That normally wouldn't be a problem. Of course, there are plenty of Criterions that I want. However, somehow October and November have turned into expensive months for my entertainment budget even in lack of new theatrical titles that would normally be coming to disc at this time. So I'm trying to be disciplined and just go with Parasite for right now.

No doubt someone here knows the answer definitively but I don't think Criterion's site does any pre-orders with these sales.

They don't. The email even confirmed that isn't likely to change -- preorders and backorders/OOS titles aren't included.

Then an in-person or curbside pickup at B&N might be a little cheaper assuming you have a store near enough

Viewed Portrait of a Lady on Fire last week thanks to my local library and it’s a great film. Will buy the Blu-ray.

Yeah, they mention one per order. I'm ok w/ that. Of course, if they're actually stackable, that would be awesome, but not expecting that.

Welp, they are apparently still stackable! ... so I ended up just ordering 3 titles (Anatomy of a Murder, L'avventura, Blow-up) to meet the free shipping criteria and got them for just a tad under $12 each shipped (tax included)!

Thought I was gonna make 3 separate orders of roughly that size each to use all 3 GCs, but no need for that afterall -- will probably just hold off til the next B&N sale coming very soon, if it still happens.

The emails for all 3 GCs did say one code per order, but that's not how the site actually treated them. It might be because the site doesn't consider them as promo coupons, but simply store credits -- that's how they look near as I can tell and are applied towards the end of the accounting (after shipping and tax) in tandem w/ payment method. So no idea what their original intention w/ these GCs are in that regard. Could be some kinda miscommunication between Criterion Channel CSR and the online store's management...

Anyway, this ended up being the best deal since the earlier days of B&N sales w/ stackable coupons. Of course, this is essentially one off for 3 titles, and I probably wouldn't collect another 3 GCs for another 1-1/2 years even if CC continued giving them out at same rate...

Another Sale come and gone. Next Flash Sale likely in late February.

B&N 50% off sale seems very likely to start within a couple weeks. I think 4 people now have independently been told by BN Employees that the sale is going to start in Nov. The dates still aren't totally clear, but Nov 6 - Nov 30 seems to be the common belief
