I've read the many posts on BM and most are geared towards a Sat/Sub speaker setup. Is BM easier or more realizable without a subwoofer? That is with two large towers, a center, two bookshelves, and a subwoofer set to large, small, small, and none respectively. If the receiver indicates that the crossover is at 100Hz, will the receiver properly redirect all signals below 100Hz, including signals from the .1 channel to the mains? Is it preferable to do BM from the receiver or the player. I'm sure this varies from model to model. I'm looking at the Pioneer 563 and the Pansonic XR25.

Thanks

What you describe is the definition of bass management. Why have a sub if you are going to turn it off? A sub's JOB is to reproduce the bottom octave, and most main speakers cannot do this as effectively as a separately powered sub. Can it be done without one? Yes.

Is it preferable to do BM from the receiver or the player.
It depends on which one's DACs are better, but I usually go with the receiver.
