After seeing Audition and Oldboy I have a growing interest in Asian thrillers.

I've seen the Ringus and Ju-Ons (and the horrible remakes), etc. so I'm looking for something fresh.

Off the top of my head...

A Tale of Two Sisters
JSA
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
(Sympathy for) Lady Vengeance
Shiri
Tae Guk Gi
Ichii the Killer (in the words of my Japanese film professor: "The worst movie you've all gotta see")
The Dead of Alive trilogy
Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl
Hana-bi
Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman
Infernal Affairs
Three...Extremes
The Eye

EDIT: Most of these are available in Region 1, or should be soon. Lady Vengeance should be released in theaters this March.

Can't wait for Lady Vengeance...

To add to Kyle's list:

Hard Boiled & The Killer - Some incredibly cheesy moments in these 2 John Woo action pictures, but some of the set pieces and choreographed violence is truly spectacular. None of his other films have reached these heights.

Cure - Terrific mystery/crime thriller from Kiyoshi Kurosawa.

Battle Royale - An entire class of teenagers is stranded on an island with one weapon each. Only one is allowed to remain, otherwise they all die. Deserving of its cult status.

Uzumaki - Spiffy horror entry that is freaky and fun.

Versus - Vampires. Samurai. Zombies. That's all you need to know.

Pistol Opera - Completely insane Seijun Suzuki film about one hitwoman's attempt to become Number One. At least that's what I think it's about...Try his earlier Branded To Kill and Tokyo Drifter for some serious 60's cool.

And some others...

Seance
Wild Zero
Phone
Azumi
Memories Of Murder
Kamikaze Taxi
Samurai Fiction

Check out the Asian Horror thread for some other ideas.

I strongly recommend the following :
HK = HongKong.
None of my DVDs is RC1, sorry :)

- Double Vision (Shuang tong) (top Mystery thriller with David Morse, the US DVD is cut, there's an unrated HK DVD avail.)
- Shiri (Korean DVD)
- Infernal Affairs (HK is topnotch)
- Memories Of Murder (HK is fine)
- JSA (Korean is OK, picture is on the soft side, none better avail.)
- Tae Guk Gi (HK is fine, war-movie - exceptional)
- Silmido (once again, HK is fine)

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance are still unseen on my shelf.
