I can only use the Radio Shack sound meter with my receiver's internal signals in order to set my speakers.
Can I use a dvd like the Video Essentials with this receiver and my dvd player to set the speaker's output level?

I haven't tried calibrating mine yet since I have yet to get my hands on an SPL meter. I understand from an earlier thread that the problem is you can only adjust levels when using test tones, and not while playing a disc. someone therefore suggested something along the lines that:-

1. calibrate using the internal test tones. I think these are set for 75dbs.
2. re-check using Avia or Video Essentials, taking manual notes as to whether the setting is too high or low, and by how much.
3. return to test tones and adjust accordingly
4. re-check using Avia/VE, and keep going until it's all right.
