i am in san diego for siggraph 2003 and might not be able to check this thread in a few days...siggraph ends today.

i need to build workstations for my company, for maya 5 unlimited.

what processors? opteron or xeon? i want double proc.
what would be the matching mobo for either ones?
quadro fx or firegl x2? both seems to be solid performers, i have seen them in action...but couldnt decide. couldnt find benchmarks for quadro fx3000 versus firegl x2-256...they are too new.

money is no object for these three components.

thanks in advance.

If money is no object, I'd say go for dual Xeons. Supermicro seem to make some good dual Xeon motherboards. Have a look at www.2cpu.com for some more advice.

More and more software devs are putting out updates for their software that allows use of 64 bits for rendering and other things, I would go with the Opteron. New ones are coming out soon, though, I would wait for those. But it seems like the way of the future.
