Halloween H20, which seems to have little to do with water (or the wicked witch), arrived in 1998, twenty years after the original, and the 43rd film in the beloved series.

This one, directed by Steve Miner, is okay of its kind, and will be gobbled up by fans, especially because of 4k, and a quite extraordinary package.

For those concerned with disc quality, it's great. Nice grain structure, great color, perfect black levels - a score for Paramount.

But what's truly important here is the packaging.

The Dolby Vision encoded 4k UHD disc is entombed within a steelbook case that should protect it from knife-wielding cretins. It's an attractive design, with the heavy paper text sheet attached at the reverse.

The element that will make it instantly collectible, however, is the clear acetate surround, printed in four colors, that creates an overlay of immense importance.

It's a really beautiful package, and chances are that it will be a hit for eBay sellers, especially once the first printing sells out. Investment quality? Who can say. But the chances are there for a killing.

Image – 5 (Dolby Vision)

Audio – 5 (DTS-HD MA 5.1)

Pass / Fail – Pass

Plays nicely with projectors - Yes

Makes use of and works well in 4k - 7

Upgrade from Blu-ray - Definitely

Worth your attention - 10 (for Halloween fans)

Slipcover rating - 9

Be curious to find out if this 4K looks/sounds the same as the one from Shout that came out a little while back.

It’s not about the film.
I understand it's about this disc, but ultimately it's always about the film. The disc is just a delivery device. A great film, poorly delivered, remains a great film. A terrible film like this, even when beautifully delivered, remains a terrible film.

And the amazing steelbook is the delivery device for the disc. Who cares about the movie OR the disc when there's a plastic slipcover?
