As a sequel to Hawaii, recently also released by Twilight Time on Blu-ray, Tom Gries The Hawaiians holds it own. While never a great film, it's a very good one. Culled from a center cut of James Michener's novel, one must wonder when (or if) we'll see the finale.
As a Blu-ray, it's head and shoulders above MGM's master for Hawaii, which gives the cinematography of Lucien Ballard and Philip Lathrop its due. Color, densities, black levels are all nicely rendered. Grain is proportionately proper to what appears to be an IP.
If you read any reviews of the era, you'll find the name Tina Chen highlighted for her work. If you don't know the name, you will recognize the face.
