It's a Micro Advantage dual format recorder that also plays dvd and writes cd-r/w. From what I've read on dvdrhelp.com it's a rebagged NEC model.

I wish the one I just purchased was an Nec,
it's not it is manufactured by TOP-G.
My last two Micro Advantage burners indeed have been Nec's.
But those had be purchased long ago.
To save someone time, maybe these numbers on the box will help avoid this drive, also anyone that did find a Nec drive could you also share the box numbers.
On the side near the upc Model: 4DVDRW-B13
NOW ON THE BACK OF THE BOX THERE IS A WHITE TAG with bar code.
First is the SN (i feel no need for this info)

I have not yet plugged this drive in to see what the firmware reports, all my past drives all had Nec labels on them, this does not.
Anyone with the Nec want to share the info?

I was only said it was rebbaged NEC because that is what I read. How do you know it's made by TOP-G. I don't see that any where on the box (it's a xmas gift so I haven't opened it yet). And why are you saying to avoid this drive if you haven't used this yet. Is this a bad brand or something . It got good reviews on dvdrhelp and besides look at the final price no cheaper priced drive out there.

Yes the drive say's manufactured by TOP-G right on the drive itself.
I have had real good luck with the Nec drives for many
years going way back to the 2xi scsi CD drives.
The Nec 1000,1100, 1300 drives are all very good dvd writers. I have the first two,I hoped this drive also was the Nec 1300, Like I said I have purchased Micro Advantage drives in the past, some have been Nec and the others from various brands.
I have not done any further research on this TOP-G drive.
This will be my next step prior to the return, if it has a good history I may just keep it.

I still say with this price stick with it who knows you may want to get the new drives that will record 9.4 . They are due out in the spring.
