My home theatre runs component cables from the DVD player (front of room) to the Projector (at the back). Considering an upgrade to HD DVD or BluRay, I am faced with a cable challenge. First generation HD DVD step down when the signal cannot be verified as going out of HDMI (e.g., the Toshiba...
Does anyone know if "Alien: 20th Anniversary Edition" and "Alien: Director's Cut" are the same disc (in different packaging)? The Anniversary edition (1999) got a great review for the re-mastering and Ridley Scott's commentary. I assume the Director's cut is baiscally a re-release of the...
Well, both Luis and Evan are correct. All internet advice and opinions should be taken with a grain of salt. When someone posts "what FP should I buy for $1K" 60 days after I just went through the same research, I can only offer what I learned. That the market ranges from 1K to 20K and for...
I suggest that it is worth every penny to increase your budget by $500 and get the Sanyo PLV-Z4. What you will get for 1K would very limited in value, quality, presentation compared to what the Z4 can do for you.
My home theatre has Cambridge Soundworks speakers. The Fronts are Ensemble IIs. The Center Channel is the CSW Center Channel II. It seems my system would benefit from a better "anchor". I am never missing any surround sound action, but I think the dialogue could sound better / fuller. I am...
Okay, I read the Widescreen FAQ and I understand the basics of screen format...but uh, why does "2010: The year we make contact" look so bad? It appears the film claims to be anamorphic but the packaging says enhanced for widescreen tv's. Poor enhancement? The 2001 DVD is spectacular. Even if...
Okay, so I tried it. The Input source is a Sony 995 upconverting DVD player. The projector is a Sanyo Z4. Two cables: HDMI and Component. I flipped back and forth on several movies. I paused to get a still picture and went back and forth. I can't see a difference. I tried 480p, 720p and...
Must be a government agency if "Johnny Boom" is starting with budget first and not requirements. ;-) The Sanyo Z4 is a nice deal for under $2000 and was compared in side by side reviews with DLP projectors in the 10K range - and won!
Your viewing distance should be 1.5 to 2 times the screen WIDTH. The Z4 offers great flexibility with it's zoom plus vertical and horizaontal lens shift. A half decent screen (Optoma Grey Wolf) is had for $150 and offers a 1.8 gain and decent black levels. I don't seen attaining those features...
You can get the Sanyo Z4 for $1600 and that includes a free replacement lamp. If you like Sanyo, it seems the logical upgrade. I am very happy with mine!
Thanks for the reply, Michael: But does it look better than 480p? Does having the output of the DVD player set to match the native resolution of the projector (720p) improve the picture? Since they can't add informtion, what's the benefit of upconversion? I bought the Sony for the jukebox...
My HT system is: -DVD player: Sony DVPCX995V (400 disc changer w/ HDMI, upconversion, etc.) -Sanyo Z4 projector (720p native) -JVC DTS 5.1 amp When I built the system, I ran a 35 foot component cable instead of HDMI since: all my research indicated that component was equal in video...
