Okay, I read the Widescreen FAQ and I understand the basics of screen format...but uh, why does "2010: The year we make contact" look so bad? It appears the film claims to be anamorphic but the packaging says enhanced for widescreen tv's. Poor enhancement?

The 2001 DVD is spectacular. Even if the video is a bit grainy, watching 2001 on a Sanyo Z4 projecting a 92" image is amazing. Probably the closest most will get to the 1969 theatre experience. It completely fills my GreyWolf screen.

2010 comes up letter-boxed, using about half the available screen. This is the widescreen version. Just laziness on the part of MGM? :frowning:

2010 was released as a non-anamorphic DVD, as was commonplace in the early days of DVD, by MGM/UA; the rights later switched to Warner Bros., who just used the same non-anamorphic disc that MGM/UA developed, but ensconsed in a new snapper case that incorrectly listed the feature as "enhanced for widescreen TVs"...it is most certainly not.
