Looking for a good pair of mains

I'm narrowing it down to the Athenas AS F2.2's so far because of the rock bottom price and excellent reviews. In fact, I'm thinking of getting four of them and throwing in a good center as well. I've been reading though that the center should be the same brand as the mains and the center speaker...

Looking for a good pair of mains

Are you sure those Athena AS F2.2s are any good? I can grab a pair for a mere $120 at my nearest Futureshop (4 hours away).

Looking for a good pair of mains

I'm getting some new equipment and so far I have a NAD T744 receiver and a SVS PB10 sub picked out. I'm looking for some mains now, floor standing preferably but not necessary. They'll be used for all kinds of music, movies, some gaming and loud is good. The budget for them is about $700 CAD or...

New amp and two speakers - $1k budget.

According to reviews those speakers and that sub sound incredible for the price. Seems like a good choice to me. The room the speakers are going in is on the small side so the book shelfs shouldn't have any trouble there. But the receiver seems to be on the lower end of product line. I have a...

New amp and two speakers - $1k budget.

Thanks for the quick reply but thats not quite what I'm looking for. I don't know why I said amp but what I meant to say is that I'm looking for a multi-channel receiver. As for the speakers, I'd prefer floor standing since book shelfs don't fill a room like towers do.

New amp and two speakers - $1k budget.

I never really thought of buying just two instead of all 6 speakers until now. If I did this I could spend more on each speaker when the time comes. So right now I'm looking for a 2.0 speaker setup with a 5.1 channel amp (or more channels) for $1000 maximum.

Any vintage soild state fans here? Post pictures inside. I'll start first.

About a year ago I picked up a mint condition Harmon/Kardon Citation 16 amplifier for $4. Yes, four dollars. I kept it for about a week when I decided to sell it on eBay for $450. I now regret doing that but I needed the money at the time. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...10169/fc_1.jpg...

    What is the problem?

Thats what I meant. I just went through the different settings like speaker size, location etc. to see if it would make a drifference. Well I opened it up to see if any capcitors were bloated or venting but I found nothing wrong. I'm assuming now that this is just a low-end amp built with...

    What is the problem?

No they aren't bi-wirible. I'm actually listening to them again on the Pioneer and they distort quickly past moderate volumes, the highs aren't as bad as I thought but there is very little bass. Seems like this is affecting all my speakers since the Pioneer is my main amp.

    What is the problem?

So I pulled these KLH T1B towers out of the basement and decided to give them another chance to see if I had any use for them. I hooked them up to my Pioneer VSX-D514 amp and played some music. Well they sounded like crap with piercing highs and a total lack of bass. I adjusted the amp for a...

    Speakers on a budget.

I'll look into all of those, thanks for the help. Oh and about the HPM-40's, I just figured out there are two versions, and this is my version. They sound a lot better than the KLH's.

    Speakers on a budget.

I've recently realized that my current speakers; a mix of KLH towers in the rear, Pioneer HPM-40s in the front and some generic center really don't sound as good as I once thought. I don't really know where to start looking and my budget is about $900(CAD). My sub is fine for my tastes and I...
