Is any sub better than no sub?

If u can pull out around AUD 250, you can import a Dayton 10" from Parts Express. It's not a bad sub at all. Warning 1: For 250 bucks, you'll only get surface shipping which takes around 2 months. Warning 2: Upgrade bug. I got mine 2 months back and I'm already thinking about a SVS...

    Ascend CBM-170s?

Clear. Very clear. Watch out for bad recordings though. And I'm not related to Ascend in any way whatsoever. :)

    Axiom vs. Bose

Ok! I can't help this one. Just be careful when you play basketball now. :D And buy a Dayton sub for now. It's cheap and it'll be a hell lot different than no sub. And then you can set your speakers to "SMALL" and rest easy.

    Analogue SPL Meter

Is the Analogue Sound Level Meter better than the Digital one? The SVS FAQs page says that the analogue meter is "generally preferred as allowing easier fine tuned calibrations". So, is it easier/harder to operate? More precise? More/less cumbersome? Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Torn between M22ti and M50ti

    1. Since your main target is HT, get a (budget) sub. Dayton 10" maybe. 2. Floorstanding will give you (comparatively) louder sound but bookshelves will give you (again, comparatively)cleaner high and mid-range (when coupled appropriately with a sub). You can setup your receiver to direct...

    CMT340 too big?

I've got a not-so-big 32" Sony Triniton Wega. And I've got a not-so-small, 21 lbs, Ascend center channel. Can I keep the speaker on top of the TV? It fits and everything, but I'm just worried that the weight might be too much. I'm even starting to see waves on the screen (or maybe that's...

    High Quality Headphones vs Speakers

$200+? My NZ$40 Sony headphones give a pretty decent surround effect. I've actually stopped the TV or turned my head around quite a few times because I thought there was someone/something behind me. And the left/right effect is pretty clear too. Buy it for US$15-$20 and you can spend the...

    Qus on SVS and HSU

Ron, thanks for the interesting piece of info. Hard to argue against that, isn't it? And Paul, American products look good to anyone ready to take the risk and import them. Even with freight charges, import duty, currency conversion and the risk involved, chances are that the imported item...

    Qus on SVS and HSU

Richard and Ron, thanks for the info. But that is one of the first thing I checked - International Shipping. I'm aware that HSU doesn't ship to NZ but SVS does (and at a very decent cost too, I must say). The only reason I was still looking at HSU is because I read around that they are...

    Qus on SVS and HSU

Mate, I'm from New Zealand. Everything here is foreign made anyways. Plus the NZ market hasn't fully matured yet. It's still full of mass produced crap and the good ones (which include a few kiwi gems) cost an arm and a leg. I can get an entry level Yamaha, convert the currency, pay the...

I'd stay away from 10" Earthquakes. They tend to get a bit boomy. Don't know about the 12" ones though.

    Qus on SVS and HSU

Thanks for the answers so far guys. And Craig is right. Curiosity does take you places. In fact, I am looking to buy one. Not now though. In a month or two or three, when I've saved enough. Besides that, given the fact SVS and HSU are generally regarded as the best the market has to offer...

    Qus on SVS and HSU

Hi A few questions I wish to ask just out of curiosity. a. Why is the cylinder series from SVS more popular than their box models and box subs from HSU more popular than their cylinder models? b. What is the difference between HSU's STF and VTF series? c. Why not compare CS/PCs and...

    Power Rating

HK, Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo. Can there be really a LOT of build and sound quality difference between them? There are more than a million people swearing by each one of those brands. I just wanted to see if anyone knows anything for sure about how their power is rated. But yeah, guess everyone...

    Power Rating

Holy crap. Does that thing say what I think it does? That Yamaha & Onkyo's actual power is less than half advertised?! Sounds dodgy, since I've heard many people say that Onkyo's power specs are under-rated and many others say that Yamaha has got a very decent power output.

What's up with all the watts? A HK AVR230 shows 6*50 with a retail of $549. But a Yamaha HTR-5730 tells me that I can get 6*85 for $299! Is Yamaha overrated? HK underrated? What about Denon & Onkyo? While I'm at it, all the Ascend HT system users, what's the best receiver for a 5.1 CBM...

    Receiver for SX-HTB

Hey thanks a lot Steve. I was just looking at a minimum of $300-400 for an Onkyo or Denon but Sherwood gives me new lows. And the model you just mentioned is $159 @ AV Street. Sweet as eh?! :D Cheers man! :emoji_thumbsup:
