    reciever repair question

Yep, went through the setup... everything as it should be. Steve - wow, lots of great info. Not going to lie - some of it's a little over my head. My girlfriend lives 3 hours from me, so I just see her on the weekends - I'll have to bring up some different tools (soldering iron, etc) next...

    reciever repair question

Okay, that last post was kinda dumb... I get normal volume out of the surround speakers (the source when I was checking earlier just didn't send much out of them). I went through the reciever's setup - had it run the 'test' noise (static) to each speaker. The mains get nothing at all...

    reciever repair question

Thanks for the replies - will check all those things and then report back. Just wanted a little better idea of where to really start looking at all this. A little more info: All 5 speakers are the same (small HTB speakers) - I get a *tiny* bit of sound out of the surround speakers, normal...

    reciever repair question

Hopefully this is the right forum to post this in... My girlfriend has a Sony STR-K502 reciever she bought around 5 years ago (she estimates) that was part of a HTB. Since I've known her (~8 months) the two front speakers haven't worked. It's always bugged me a little (I'm anal like that)...

Suggestions for surround on a budget...

Also, still wondering about maybe using some contact paper or something like that to cover the Fluance speakers... I'd hate to waste such a nice finish, but I think they'd stand out too much otherwise.

Suggestions for surround on a budget...

Okay, dragging up an old thread, but... I'm thinking about asking for some of this equipment for Christmas from relatives/girlfriend/etc. The only places to really buy electronics and stuff around here are Best Buy, American, and Ultimate Electronics... none of them carry the Panasonic recieve...

Suggestions for surround on a budget...

Well, only $1000 on the speakers and reciever... I know it's not a small ammount of money, but compared to what a lot of guys out there own, $1000 *might* buy you the amp. ;)

Suggestions for surround on a budget...

Thanks... while I'm looking into this stuff, anyone have any suggestions on speaker placement? Specifically, the rears... not sure where to put them and what angle the should be pointing...

Suggestions for surround on a budget...

So what online stores do you recommend for purchasing these different brands? I see that Fluance sells direct, but what about the Panasonic reciever, JBLs, or Dayton sub? The only things right now with the Fluance speakers is their finish... looks great, but wouldn't match the other stuff I...

New TV advice... ~18' viewing distance - want to purchase asap

Well, I went ahead and got the TV, and it's HUGE... I love it! Now, being the newbie I am, I'm looking for advice on what all I need to do to set this puppy up to perform at its best. I know nothing about tweaking settings and all that, so... any newbie guides out there? Stretch plus seems...

Suggestions for surround on a budget...

As much as I'd like to spend a ton of money on the high-end speakers I read about on here and in other places, I just can't justify the cost right now. When I move into a new house and have a dedicated HT room, I'll look into those. For now, though, I'm looking for suggestions for speakers on a...

New TV advice... ~18' viewing distance - want to purchase asap

It is my 'main' TV. I live in a house by myself... just the living room, bedroom, kitchen, and a couple unfinished rooms in the basement. When I move into a new house, I plan on building a dedicated HT room, which will probably have a projector, but for now I figured going with a TV makes more...

New TV advice... ~18' viewing distance - want to purchase asap

Alright, sounds good. So I should be happy going with the 65" Mitsubishi, then? I think the model # is WS65315... $2300. There's also WS-65513 and WS-65515 models that are more expensive... I think they have the HD tuner built in, but I didn't know if one was just a newer model and what...

New TV advice... ~18' viewing distance - want to purchase asap

Hi all, first post here... I'm seeing a lot of recommendations for Mitsubishi stuff, which is good, because that's what brand I've been looking at. In any case, my living room is 20' long, and the couch and TV are on opposite ends. I was thinking I should probably go all out and get a 65"...
