Used Yamaha receiver sold as New

There are several items in the box that should be in sealed plastic......the remote, antennas, power cord, batteries, etc. Were they? I'd definately return it. I usually don't leave the store without inspecting the box to see if the original seal is intact.

    Mini-Review: Yamaha HTR-5760 Receiver

I'm going to calibrate tomorrow. I've just been fooling with the manual settings for now. I really do think it sounds better than the 5590 and can go louder and stay cleaner without distorting.....practically to +10dB (scale is to +16.5 I think). Why would that be? It's rated lower I think...

    Mini-Review: Yamaha HTR-5760 Receiver

I just returned the HTR 5590 and brought home the HTR 5760. I haven't done any automatic calibrations yet, but just listening right out of the box, sounds great. It definately seems to have more punch and clarity at higher volumes than the 5590. I was quite impressed with the 5590 when I first...

PSA: Darn Yamaha and their Dynamic Range Setting

I guess I don't know enough about the technical end of this stuff, but to me, MAX should mean maximum dynamic range, therefore more between the least and the most when compared to STD or MIN. Too simply? ;)

    New system help

Sometimes they do charge duty on certain items. It's all very confusing to me. It seems to be dependant on where the item was produced. Even though you buy and item from the US, but if it was produced in China, you are slapped with duty fees. I was interested in buying a Harman Kardon. In...

Will the Yamaha gap be filled?

Are there any rumours or suspiscions of a model being produced that bridges the gap between the RXV2400 and flagship RXZ9 recievers, like there was with the 1300,2300,3300,RXZ1? The 3300 is still available at a local store for a decent price (1799 CND....not sure what the original prices were)...

    New system help

Canada has crap for online electronic stores. If you are going to be in Toronto, Bay Bloor Radio carries all the brands you mentioned, but no online sales. www.baybloorradio.com They've been around a long time, and from what I've heard, have a great reputation.

HK AVR 630 or Yamaha RX 2400

I can't find any freeking crossover settings in the menu.....only LFE but in terms of dB...starts at 0 and goes down. There is a low frequency test whereby you can use a test tone for each of your speakers and sub and listen to the low frequencies. Not even sure what that is for. It just seems...

HK AVR 630 or Yamaha RX 2400

Well I didn't mean to imply that it hurt. On the contrary.I was expecting it to get to about half volume and sound like absolute crap, just as my Pioneer used to....but nope. It was surprising to me as well, for I was once brainwashed into thinking HK was the end all and be all for...

HK AVR 630 or Yamaha RX 2400

Well, now that I've had the opportunity to crank it, I'm so glad I second guessed myself on the HK. I've had it in the back of my mind that after trying a few other brands, I would probably end up getting the HK630 again, but not now!!!! I mean, this isn't even the Yamaha model that I want and...

HK AVR 630 or Yamaha RX 2400

Since I can't do an in-home demo of the Yamaha 2400, I decided to buy the last HTR5590 (from a store with 30 day return policy) just to give me an idea what a Yamaha would sound like with my system. From all specs, I cant see any difference between the HTR 5590 and the RX V1300 models. I...

A thermometer and a scale will tell you which is the best receiver.

Ah......so the RCA refers to the thingy on the end. OK.

A thermometer and a scale will tell you which is the best receiver.

My question is why the hell did they (whoever "they" are) choose 2 names that are so similar and can be easily confused? Why have I always know composite cables to be RCA cables? Is this wrong? Which brings me to cables and wires. I think it's all a bunch of malarky. I replaced 150ft of...

    paradigm-vs-klipsch

GRRRRRRRRR How I despise salespeople!!!!! An immediate turn off for me is when a salesperson chooses to knock down the competition, rather than sell his/her product on its own merits.

    Just out of curiosity

Thanks!!! I remember seeing this on a couple of them. I think Toy Story was one of them. I returned my HK 630 and am now back in the shopping loop. When I bring home another receiver, I'll give it a go.

HK AVR 630 or Yamaha RX 2400

Thanks for all your help guys. I am officially receiverless now. I just didn't feel like I was getting enough bang for my buck. My sales guy spent about an hour trying to talk me out of returning it, saying there is nothing better in that price range, but i persevered. I'm totally relieved...

    Efficient Speakers-4 questions

Canada Sorry.......just thought everyone knew Bob and Doug and Take Off Eh. ;) Klipsch Reference are the speakers I listened to with the Yamaha 1400.......they blew my mind!!! Loved them. The sound was so defined and crisp. I haven't actually heard Paradigm, but I know they have a decent...

HK AVR 630 or Yamaha RX 2400

I was all set to return the HK tomorrow and either pick up the Yamaha 2400 or sit on it a while and do some more research. I just read this in the 2400 manual..... FRONT terminals Connect one or two speaker systems to these terminals. If you use only one speaker system, connect it to...

    Efficient Speakers-4 questions

    1. When looking at speaker specs, what is the minimum number to indicate that a speaker is effiecient and easier to drive? 2. How much of a difference does this spec make. ex. the difference between 93dB and 96dB. Is it significant? 3. Which mainline manufacturers produce more efficient...

That was my original thinking too Drew. Knowing the HK outdoes the Yamaha or vice versa on 5K worth of speakers doesn't help me in determining which receiver is more suited to my setup. Considering my options though (ie taking the HK back and being stuck with the Yamaha) it's better than...

Thanks Steve. Don't go out of your way, but another opinion is always good to have. One of the stores I was at suggested that I bring my HK in to compare it to the the Yamaha 1400 or 2400. I thought they were nuts, because that will not tell me what the 2400 will sound like with my...

I had to go out last night. My husband started playing with my toy. GRRRRR I had all the speakers set to 0dB so the volume was able to go to +10dB. He discovered that the volume goes past that......it just doesn't register on the display. I'm not impressed. Now I have to give a good listen...
