Have you heard about podcasting yet? Here is an explanation from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast It really seems to be gaining in popularity, and now there are several shows (or podcasts) that focus on movies and DVD's. The first big misconception is that you need an...
I tried to edit my original post, but kept getting an error message. Anyway, I started off the challenge with a bang (no pun intended) 1. Belle de jour
Unless I can find time for double and triple features every night, I won't be able to screen everything in my collection (which is now nearly 800 titles). But I will be happy to see how many I CAN get through!
Matt, I understand your point.
However, the choice of NOT changing the film, and getting an X rating (or NC-17) is still no choice at all.
The amount of money that is lost with an X rating (because of limited screens and showtimes) renders the option moot.
Absolutely. On its own, Volume One stands as the grind-house valentine Tarantino set out to make. But viewed together as a whole, they form a much more complete film. Quentin Tarantino never fails to remind me why I love movies so much.
The other thing that is really nice about Movie Collector is that it's constantly being tweaked and improved. I love the program. Searching through my entire video library (DVD's, LD's, VHS, and even 3/4" U-matic tapes) is a snap. HTML output is probably the only complaint I would have with...
This is true when you are speaking of the construction of a DVD. However the real point is Criterion has a reputation for producing supplemental material that isn't available anywhere else. As examples I would include the cast commentary on "This Is Spinal Tap", Johnny Depp reading the...
So you can imagine what it was like back in the days of laserdisc when Criterion CAV editions of Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and 2001, cost $99.00 each! Just to put things in perspective... Thank God for DVD.
Joe, If you own the movies that have the various THX promos, it is possible to create your own demo disc. I suggest you visit: http://www.doom9.org/ -Mike
I am interested in buying an iPod - but I was wondering if they have loud playback? I ask because I have slight hearing loss in one of my ears and usually need to turn up the volume more than a normal hearing person. Do you find that you playback your iPod at full volume, or would that be too...
Many of my favorites have been mentioned here, but one that was a real surprise is Guillermo del Toro's commentary on Blade 2. It's funny, informative and very entertaining. Also worth listening to: Spinal Tap (Criterion) Best In Show Rashomon (Criterion) Young Frankenstein Casablanca*...
Well, I don’t know what depresses me more, the slow release schedule of SACD and DVD-A titles – or the fact that every topic discussing this issue is seemingly limited to responses from the usual suspects (no disrespect intended). If this forum is a microcosm of Hi-Rez music consumers, things...
Just to share my .02 worth... My Panasonic widescreen television can not be switched into zoom mode if the source is presented in progressive scan (as with a DVD). I don't know if all TV's do this, but mine does. I certainly understand a person's point of view to want to see a program (be...
I went looking for reviews for this too and couldn't find any at my regular stops. I guess screeners weren't made available. I hope that isn't an indication of the quality of the disc, since I am looking forward to seeing the movie.
The program I use is called Movie Collector it's available at collectorz.com I realize that DVD Profile seems to be the popular choice, but this program is great too. The software has excellent support, it's easy to use, and can also keep track of Laserdiscs, and VHS tapes in the same...
I missed the chat. Does anyone have the details on the "Millennium" set? This is the Chris Carter series, right? I have the first season as a Japanese import, and the picture quality is pretty poor. Thanks, Mike
Thanks Rachael for an interesting debate! As someone who is new to Hi-Rez audio - and loves it - I hope that the formats continue to grow and gain acceptance. But in order for that to happen, public awareness needs to be initiated. I'll agree that it would be nice to have a SACD player...
