Movies broadcast on HDTV...really in HD?

Hello all. I recently started subscribing to HDTV. Quite a noticeable difference compared to standard definition TV. I know that there are many TV programs recorded and broadcast in HD. My question relates to movies (like Star Wars, Finding Nemo, etc, etc) which are broadcast on HD channels...

    DVI vs HDMI

What is the difference between DVI and HDMI? I bought a plasma HD TV last year which has a DVI input, but I now notice that newer sets have an HDMI input. I don't use HDTV yet, but I was hoping to move to HDTV in the future as the format grows. Is my 1 year old set already out of date because...

    funny vibration from subwoofer

I own the PSB Subzero i. (their smallest sub) I live in a condo unit and the I am quite content with the amount of bass that I hear/feel. However, whenever there are extended sequences of strong, low bass, I hear a funny vibration from the sub. This vibration can best be described as pulses...

For those who put Sony down.

Nice read. Good to know that my 1000ES gets some respect. However, the DB790 which was reviewed is a discrete 6 channel amplifer, while my 1000ES is a 7 channel amplifier. Are they really the same machine, or are there other significant differences?

DVD-A and SA-CD bass management question

Thanks Brian. I actually don't have a DVD-A or SA-CD player yet, but I am considering it. That's why I've been trying to figure things out to see whether it is something I really want to invest in. If I understand your post correctly, things should be OK as long as the player does bass...

DVD-A and SA-CD bass management question

Hi all. Recently bought/setup a new 5.1 system. Enjoying 5.1 surround sound from DVD's and very nice stereo/ProLogicII/Neo6 sound from CD's/records. I have always valued high quality sound from CD's and records, although I have never considered myself a hardcore "audiophile" with vacuum tube...

    Receiver with component switching.

I have the Sony 1000ES receiver. I am in the same situation as you, in that I use component connections for my DVD player and I eventually will get HDTV and I want to minimize the number of component wires going to my TV. The 1000ES receiver has 2 sets of component inputs and 1 set of...

Sony Plasma TV's......compared to other brands

I have always found Sony CRT's to be noticably superior to most other brands. Now I am considering getting a Plasma TV because of serious space considerations in a condo. How are the Sony Plasma TV's compared to the competition? I've noticed that many people here have high praise for Panasonic...

DTS Neo 6 vs. Dolby Pro Logic II (CONSOLIDATED THREAD)

Wow! What a thread this has become. I thank Roger Dressler and Jeremy Anderson for their insightful posts on the first page of this thread. I have sampled some more of my favourite CD's using stereo, Dolby ProLogic II, and DTS Neo 6. When hearing the same song and switching between the...

Sub setup with receiver and cross over frequency

Hi all. A two part question regarding my subwoofer setup and my receiver. Receiver = Sony STR-DA1000ES Subwoofer = PSB Alpha Subzero i In my receiver, I have set my speakers as "small", meaning that the satellite speakers will only get frequencies >100Hz, while the subwoofer will handle...

DTS Neo 6 vs. Dolby Pro Logic II (CONSOLIDATED THREAD)

First post here. I recently bought a home theatre system set up for 5.1 surround. Receiver = Sony STR-DA1000ES (analog amp) Speakers = PSB Alpha Intro Series (4xLR, 1xCLR) Subwoofer = PSB Alpha Subzero i My question revolves around what is considered the better "technique" to transform...
