Totem speakers use lock mitred jointing on all there speakers, this increases rigidity within the cabinet structure. They take this one step further by veneering the internal cabinet as well. They use borosilicate damping (expensive; sound waves dissipate a lot faster) instead of foam/polyfill...
Individuals who define there self-worth through there system are insecure with themselves, Individuals who judge and disparage others for purchasing products (tweaks) and implementing them are usually insecure with there system. You don’t see my system signatured at the bottom of my posts.
This post is pretty damn presumptuous of you Chu; I agree that some of the aforementioned tweaks are out to lunch but you listed numerous products that are proven to work through valuable diagrammatic measurement and engineering. The “BEAK” is one “tweak” that is time-honored and accepted by the...
Generally speaking, a bookshelf speaker will outperform a tower speaker in the same price category. There are many advantages of a bookshelf over a tower, the only advantage a tower holds over bookshelf is raw SPL and lower bass extension. Cabinet resonance and diffraction are both issues...
a)this is a common fact b)cheap floor-standers with superb build quality are few and far between c)speaking from sole experience and the experience of friends this is hardly the case d)this defeats the whole argument as to why floor standers are better??? Size of room is ultimately my...
“Generally” in a given price range, the bookshelf speaker will outperform its equivalent floor-stander in its price category. Less cost goes into building the cabinet than for a floor-stander; also, resonance is harder to control in a larger cabinet if the cabinet is not constructed of top...
well it has come down to maple or cherry...both are equivilant in cost. I beleive cherry is a little more neatral when it comes to aesthetics, but the maple looks hot, and I prefer it.
Regarding real veneer finishes…when investing in some “expensive” speakers with real wood veneers should one pick a finish that will still be suited in 5-10 years? The reason I am asking is because I really like the light maple finish, but I am afraid that it will fade out the next couple years...
Ok I realized I will be using my balanced outputs on my pre-amp to connect my balanced inputs on my Amplifier. That leaves me with unbalanced input/output on both my pre-amp and my amp. Which one would be better to hook my sub up to? Will there be a difference in sound? Secondly, I have...
I have a pre-amp, amp, and two tower speakers...I want to integrate a Velodyne DD-12, my pre-amp does not have a sub-out...I am wondering if it is possible to integrate it without the internal crossover of the sub affecting the sound of my tower speakers, I don't want to cross-over anything, I...
I am also trying to figure out the compression/distortion issues this guy was having…according to Totem, the push/pull configuration is supposed to cut down distortion and compression, and with 400 watts on tap I don’t see myself running into a problem. Maybe this guy had a really large room, or...
ArthurS I appreciate the comments, the compression and distortion issues would be no less apparent in say a Forest? Keep in mind this will be going in a fairly small listening area and the REL addition is simply to add a new octave of listening pleasure...regardless of what the manuf. thinks...
I would like to know what kind of power your friend was using? Also, here is a follow up of Mr. Atkinsons 1996 Review... samples measured 84.5dB(B)/2.83V/m. I still don't know where you get the distortion and compression ideas  My reason for this post was to get some...
ArthurS, have you listened to the Mani-2? How is it being pushed into distortion and compression to generate the bass at more than medium volume? I don't quite follow; they employ the 3rd driver to prevent this from happening. Also, I emailed Totem to get there opinion and they wrote back on two...
