Marantz MM-9000 versus MA-500 separate monoblock amplifiers?

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it very much. I have initially planned to use the MM-9000 or MA-500 units for my side and rear surrounds, and the MA-700 for the front three channels. However, the MM-9000 sits nicely (from a power perspective at 150W/ch x 5) right in between the MA-500 and...

Marantz MM-9000 versus MA-500 separate monoblock amplifiers?

Everyone comatose from turkey-day? Any thoughts or experience? I'd also be interested to know if anyone has compared the MM-9000 to the MA-700 separates, which are rated at 200W at 8Ohm Thanks, Al

Marantz MM-9000 versus MA-500 separate monoblock amplifiers?

I've been looking at both the Marantz MM-9000 and MA-500 separates and the specs for both are fairly close. The MM-9000 is 150wx5 RMS, 170w EIA 8 Ohm in a single chassis. The MA-500 monoblock is 125W RMS, 170W EIA 8 Ohm Both have very favorable reviews from over the years and owners of both seem...

Marantz SR8200 with MA500 versus SR8002 - which would sound better

Thanks for feedback. So just based on the power supply specifications alone, it does sound like using the discrete MA-500 monoblocks(each draws 230W) leads one to believe they probably have a bit more oomph(translate to headroom). Interesting specs.

Marantz SR8200 with MA500 versus SR8002 - which would sound better

I have an older Marantz SR8200 AVR, which although rated at 120Wx6, I think with all channels driven probably isn't quite capable of delivering that kind of headroom. At least that's how it sounds to me. Also, to power both rear channels(speakers) for 7.1 material, I need to pick up an...

Optoma HD70 versus Mitsubishi HD1000U, good budget 720P projector for $200-500

Our budget for a replacement projector(our old InFocus business class unit finally died) is miniscule, and we typically aren't early adopters or buyers of the latest greatest.... so a 720p projector that is a generation back presents a good buy for us. Reading through various posts here and the...

    More Turntable questions

You really can't go wrong with the Rega P3(Planar 3). Read some reviews and I think you'll find it is the perennial recommendation for "best bang for the buck". It will compete with the more esoteric units, but not break the bank(depending on your budget). Now, the real issue you may face...

Question: Source for, how to use IR repeater port on rear of Marantz SR8200?

I have a Marantz SR8200 which has a "remote IR port" on the rear of the unit which according to the limited documentation(owners manual) is for connecting an IR repeater when the receiver is housed in a closet or other remote location where the IR remote-control can not communicate with the...

Will Energy Veritas V2.0ci Center voice well with Energy e:XL-26 mains and e:XL-16 surrounds?

I have a HT setup made up of Energy e:XL series speakers, the front main speakers being the e:XL-26 towers and the surrounds being e:XL-16 bookshelf speakers. I am needing to get a center channel and can get the e:XL-C or e:XL-C2 used or as NOS from $50-150 easily. But I have also run across...

Marantz SR8200 THX Select 6.1 AV Receiver - $750 plus shipping I bought this unit about 3 years ago, and it has been operated in a clean smoke-free environment, and lightly used. It is in pristine shape, and includes the LCD backlit learning RC3200 remote, which itself is a $200+ value. The...

    Beef: Marantz 8300, SA-12S1, DV-12S1...

Great thread... I too have noticed the great deals on the Marantz DV-12S1(DVD-A/DVD Progressive) and SA-12S1(SACD/DVD-Interlaced) players out there. They are quite common in the sub $1k areana now. Obviously in regard to build quality, they are hard to beat. And even if/when Marantz offer...

Philips DVD-963SA: SACD, DVD, and 24/192 upsampling of CD, for $400?!

Hi, Since it was mentioned earlier in the thread.... anyone have any thoughts comparing the Marantz DV-12S1 to the upcoming Philips DVD-963SA? I have been giving serious thought to the Pioneer Elite 45a, just because the price-point is pretty good, and it's a universal player... with some...

Marantz DV-5200 versus DV-6200 - different video quality, or same "guts"?

bump =) I guess I'll give up for a while if I don't hear anything. Just trying to see if the video performance of the DV-6200 is noticeably better than the VC-5200. al

Marantz DV-5200 versus DV-6200 - different video quality, or same "guts"?

bump =) Sorry, didn't get any replies, and I'm genuinely hoping someone has some info/opinions on the differences between the 5200 and 6200, esp for video playback... thx =)

Marantz DV-5200 versus DV-6200 - different video quality, or same "guts"?

I've got a DV-5200 changer now, and am not sure I'm 100% satisfied with it's performance.... although it's not "bad" or anything. However the DV-6200 has really good reviews, and I have a separate CD transport that is already quite good. So, the "upgraded audio section" in the DV-6200 isn't such...

    SR-9200 vs SR-14EX ...and SR-8200

Thanks, in particular, I would be curious if anyone has compared the SR-8200 or SR-9200 to the SR-14EX for stereo playback quality?? Honestly I think my 8200 is sufficient for Home Theater in my modest living-room, but I am pretty darned picky when it comes to stereo audio... pickier than...

Marantz DV8300 Question for Manoj M.

Manoj, Thanks for the tip, and I tracked a copy down this afternoon.... very nice magazine, although "note" the photo error for the Onkyo receiver in the new products section... showing an H/K from the previous page ;) But back on-topic *laugh*... I was wondering, could you expand a bit...

    SR-9200 vs SR-14EX ...and SR-8200

Hi, I've got a Marantx SR-8200 now, and really like it quite a bit. However, I've noted some really good deals on used SR-9200 receivers lately and was thinking about making the upgrade. I am very familiar with the features of both the 8200 and 9200 respectively, but what I'm particularly...

I have the older e:xl-26 towers for mains, e:xl-C2 for center, and e:xl-16 speakers for surrounds. I've just put them in so haven't had a chance to really watch too many movies in 5.1, much less 6.1(although I just got Blade II, and that *is* in DTS-ES... so I'll give it a try this weekend)...

    Marantz DV-6200 vs VC-5200 .... and DV-8300

Yes, the VC-5200 is progressive, as is the DV-6200 ;) I already have the VC-5200.... and generally like it, although its mechanism is soooo slow and lethargic. If one checks out the specifications, and other reviews, the guts of the VC-5200 and DV-6200 are supposed to be same... except for a...

    Marantz DV-6200 vs VC-5200 .... and DV-8300

Hi, Well, I've already got a Marantz VC-5200 5-Disc DVD player, and although the picture is fine, it's really slow disc-handling is annoying. That and the fact that I'm also potentially interested in a slightly finer CD player, and SACD/DVD-A.... have got me looking around. On the DVD...

Marantz DV8300 Question for Manoj M.

Hi, I looked online to see if I could find/purchase the review of the DV-8300, but I didn't see any info on the current issue or about a review on the DV-8300. I also haven't seen your magazine around, so I was wondering if there was some way I could get the review on the Marantz DV-8300...
