Gday, This crossover design comes from Madisound. It's their Vifa A/V MTM kit. It uses two vifa M13SG09-16 woofers and a D25ASG05-06 tweeter. (I hope I'm not breaching any copyright laws posting this). What has got me a little worried is the RLC combo across the terminals. With...
Being an employee of Jaycar, I'd say you'd be better off getting the 12" 4 Ohm Carbon Fibre woofer. It's cheaper, is more efficient (93dB), and IMO sounds better. Depends on what sort of cabinet you're going to use though. IIRC Whatmough used to make a sub called the Typhoon using the Carbon...
Jaycar Australia is selling them for AU$10, which would make them around $5-$6 US. Only problem is they'd cost a fortune to ship overseas, as the whole unit is fairly bulky and heavy. They're also selling cushion versions, I've got one of those. For the money you can't complain, but I found...
Thanks again guys...:emoji_thumbsup:
MarcVH, the levelling of the shelves actually didn't take very long at all. I just put all the shelves on till they looked straight, then started from the bottom up using a spirit level to fix it all. I had my dad helping me with that bit and that made...
Thanks everyone, I'm not used to this many compliments...:b
Wayne, that's a bit of a rip off about only getting black, do you have any idea why that is?
Dave,, the curves were a bit hard to do; I clamped the wood to a long table, then used a ruler to measure out the right distances, then...
Thanks Cam.
The speakers are actually made by me, and it's a decorative adhesive covering that's used for the marble look. Pretty much a heavy duty version of contact for covering books. Looks quite nice from a distance, but it's not quite so good up close as it's hard to get the corners...
First of all, Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all!!
This project was about 6 months in the making from start to finish, but I'm very impressed with the final results. Unfortunately the pictures here don't do it justice.
Thanks to everyone who has posted on this forum regarding...
Referring to the orignial post, I've got a set of speakers at home with a very similar design. Uses two P17s and a D25AG (1" Aluminium dome) tweeter.
It's actually a 2.5 way design though, with one one of the P17s having a low pass of 200Hz. Very nice sounding speakers for the money I paid...
Here's a progress pic of my flexy (side on). The picture isn't on the best angle, but the big piece is 1200x600mm. At the moment it's supported by 6 18mm rods, and I can put pretty much all my weight (~75kg) on the front middle of that piece with hardly any flex.
There's going to be another 2...

I found the easiest way to make a grille was to take a sheet of 6mm MDF (that's about 1/4" for all you backwards people;) ), and cut out the middle so you end with a solid frame (does that make sense?). Then it's just a matter of bevelling the edges with a router, painting it black, and...
That depends on what the main use for the speakers will be. If you listen to a lot of CDs or stereo signals, you may want to beef up the mains. But if they're mainly for HT, identical speakers would be the way to go (I think Dolby recommend this).
Chris, I'm using a MTM design with the P17 and the D25AG-35. It's not bad, but I find the tweeters a little harsh (because of the Alu dome I'm guessing). It's actually a 2.5 way design, with one woofer acting only below 200Hz.
PM me if you would the XO and cabinet design.
