    Gday,

This crossover design comes from Madisound. It's their Vifa A/V MTM kit. It uses two vifa M13SG09-16 woofers and a D25ASG05-06 tweeter.

(I hope I'm not breaching any copyright laws posting this).

What has got me a little worried is the RLC combo across the terminals. With the resistor being a 15W, I'm a little concerned that a lot of signal would be heading down this path, thereby sacrificing efficiency.

Does anyone have any opinions on this? Does this look like a good design in general?

    Regards,
    Ashley

I have a feeling it's the zobel network to adjust the impedance. Maybe you could take it out, but I wouldn't. [IMG]

Some ppl believe that few components in an XO are ideal, but I've heard some real nice speakers with huge XOs so I wouldn't be too worried about it. I wish I could say how they sound but I've never heard them. [IMG]

A Zobel would be a R-C in series (and in parallel with usually a woofer driver only). The R-L-C in series (then parallelled across the entire network) is most likely a notch or a trap.

You're right, my bad. Zobel is R-C, notch/resonance are RCL. I guess I shouldn't trust my "feelings" anymore and rather look it up.

Can someone explain the tweeter network? I can't make sense of it.

  6. The tweeter looks just like a 3rd order electrical with a zobel. The zobel (haven't ploted anything, so I am winging this) might actually just be shapping the responce. Think of it as a stunted lowpass. perhaps that tweeter has a rising responcs?

They've arranged things a little different than usual, but everything looks like a normal crossover.
