I have a HK AVR500 that is sitting on my rack right now that is going to be replaced. It is a great home theater receiver and in perfect working condition. I need component switching because of new setup. I have the original box, packaging and remote. The menu is somewhere in my house and I...
Ryan, thanks for your help. I've did some quick research and indeed the denon 1705 and 1905 looks pretty promising. Especially the video up conversion is not a feature that you find on Onkyo 501 or 602. Do you know on the video upconversion, is it just a straight bypass?
I have HK AVR-500 for several years and have been very happy with it. However, I change some of my home theater equipment and now need a component switcher. I am thinking just upgrade to Onkyo SR-502 or SR602. 1) What's other receiver should I consider with a limited budget. 2) Do I need 7.1...
I just got a HK AVR500 from Ubid for $260 included shipping and I should received it these couple days. Hopefully it already has the dts & volumme problem fixed.
This is the situation I am in. I have a Pioneer CLD-S360 with S-video, digital out nad RF out. I believe this is a Japan model. I used to watch LD on my old samsung 27" analog TV and the picture is definitely better than video and close to DVD.
I just purchased a sampo 34" WS TV and...
Is there any LD player out there can probably display a letterbox image without black bar on 4 sides on a WS TV. I am currently have to zoom the picture to fill the screen and will like to know if there is any option out there.
ColinM, for $29 + $35 shipping & handling charge, I bought the JBL scs-125a which is the previous model of scs-135. It include five satelite speakers rated 10-50W and a subwoofer rated 75W. It's is a refurbished product so I do not know it will come with all the gadgets or not. The original...
MarkO, This great deal of U-bid will give me time to save some money to buy better speakers down the road. I can buy a new sub, new center or new front speaker as I learn more about HT stuff. In the mean time the scs-125a is not that bad, I almost bought the scs-135 before I come across this...
After I type this post, I found JBL SCS 125a selling at Ubid for $29:D dollars. I bought 1 out of the 4 sets available and the whole lot sold out within 15 minuates after I bought mine. I know the center channel and the subwoofer is not that great but for a starter set - IT'S A GREAT DEAL!! I...
I am new to the home theater stuff and already spent a good chunk of money on 34" 16:9 Sampo, Zenith DTV1080, progressive scan DVD and a lot of DVDs.
I just purchased the HK AVR 500 from ubid and need to buy some speakers to finish my setup. Unfortunately, I already exceed my initial budget...
Philips's HD picture look a little bit soft to me. They also have only one HD component input. It is also more difficult to get in the service menu to correct the geometry setting. Also their service is very bad.
Will all the new DVD release have a much better quality than the old one and also be WS? On dddhouse, most of the HK DVD is fullscreen or letterbox which are not what I prefer for my WS TV.
It is confirmed that Master is going to be in HDTV. Read the thread in AVS forum. Also the master commercial in NCAA playoff said it is going to be in HDTV where avialable. I can't wait and I just set up with the Zenith DTV1080 for about a week. To me Zenith is better. They do not have no...
Back to the LD. I have a new sampo 34" 16:9 TV and it has no zoom function. The TV and LD player conspire to put black bars on all 4 sides of the Blade Runner(WS) I want to watch. I can strech the images from normal to wide and it fill the screen on both sides but I still have a distorted...
You really don't need the widescreen TV if only 5-10% of what you watch is DVD, HD programs. You probably don't need to spend the extra money & time to buy and figure out all the digital TV equipments. I go with widescreen because the WS DVD and HDTV is so unreal.
I have AT&T digital cable and I think they are behind other cable company in moving to HDTV. Also the cable box they provided to me (Motorola) do not have S video output. I am going to switch to Direct TV or Dish soon.
Scott,
My problem is with 4:3 TV and when it lock into full mode, it is using a widescreen format. My DVD player has zoom mode and it will zoom the picture but zoom within the WS format. Basically the TV has complete control on how the picture is going to show in 4:3 and 16:9 in...
Allan,
You have a very great web page with a lot of useful informations. Thank you.
Should I try to see if I can do a height control as you suggested in your web page. Will it distort the picture further? I love the picture of the TV and I get a very good deal on it. I just hate to...
Is there any 4:3 HDTV out there will not lock into widescreen mode when feed progressive scan (480P) or HD signal especailly direct view TV.
Personally I do not like stretching and there's still a lot of DVD out there and even SDTV signal that is still in 4:3 mode. My new Phillips will not...
Thank you, guys.
I try the S-Video route and it work but without the sound since I am currently still using the TV for sound. I guess I have to find an audio spliter to split the sound from my player into 2 and hookup to the TV.
The picture with the S-Video is definitely not as sharp. I am...
I have not decided which way I am going to get my HDTV signal yet. I have directview philips 32" HD ready TV and digital cable.
I want to know which give you better picture, digital cable or satellite? Does satellite's signal close to 480i and how many lines of resolution does cable...
I have the phillip 4:3 aspect HD ready TV and the TV automatic get into the widescreen mode when it detect progressive signal from DVD player. Can that be turn off or should I get another DVD player to scale the image to correct aspect ratio. I am watching Wizard of Oz last night and the...
