Night vision questions for everyone - to help re-assure a post lasik surgery patient

Sean - Wow! Thanks for such a detailed reply! Wavefront lasik is what I had, so hopefully I just am having a slow healing process. The streaks, while worse at night, are still noticable in some light such as an overcast day. The glare is not noticable in bright daylight. I learned a lot from...

Night vision questions for everyone - to help re-assure a post lasik surgery patient

Philip - I wouldn't call it impaired. The problem isn't that major at all, it is just noticable because I didn't have the glare as bad with glasses, so I am a little distracted. Actually, if I stick my glasses on right now the glare goes back to the level I had pre-surgery (but of course...

Night vision questions for everyone - to help re-assure a post lasik surgery patient

I talked to the doctor today and she told he not to worry at least until the next appointment in 3 months. I changed my eye drops back to vials (no preservatives) and things have been a little better since then. Only the bright stars have "X"s through them and headlight glare is better a little...

Night vision questions for everyone - to help re-assure a post lasik surgery patient

Thanks for the replys. I moved up my 3 month appointment by a couple of weeks to talk to the doctor a little sooner and see how I should be at this point. I have read that in some cases glare doesn't get better after the 3rd month. Other things I read says it gets better over 6 month, 9 months...

Night vision questions for everyone - to help re-assure a post lasik surgery patient

Thanks for the answers everyone. I still hope to hear from some more people. Dave - When driving, if you look at the headlights and traffic lights that are further away, you don't see any glare at all? I don't have much of a glare/starburst on closer cars, but the ones that are 150ft and...

Night vision questions for everyone - to help re-assure a post lasik surgery patient

No, I didn't have it done at Kremer. I'll let you know by email where I had it done if you would like. The surgeon is rated higher than Kremer for the area though. I know that the halos/starbursts are normal for the first 60-90 days, but I am at 67 days right now. I'm glad to hear that...

Night vision questions for everyone - to help re-assure a post lasik surgery patient

By the way, I will give my own answers to these questions after a couple of others have. I just want to hear from some other people first. Thanks!

Night vision questions for everyone - to help re-assure a post lasik surgery patient

I recently had Lasik surgery for my eyes. My sight is now better than 20/20 but I have some concerns about my night vision. Please answer these questions no matter how good or bad your vision is. Please only answer if you are sure. I didn't notice these until they were pointed out to me. Thanks...

    "bright" and "warm" receivers

Many people have said that the 3805 has a different, more detailed sound than the 3802. The 3802 sounded boring for movies, in my opinion, where the 3805 has a more lifelike sound without being harsh.

    "bright" and "warm" receivers

I have tried many different receivers with my same speakers (and the speakers in the same position) and the sound is quite different receiver to receiver. I wouldn't go as far as to define one receiver as "bright" and another as "warm", but I could definately say that one receiver was...

    Halo 2 HTF Clan

I had a great time with the HTF2 clan yesterday. I was having more fun with the every man for himself games than I was with the team games just because it seemed that there wasn't enough team strategy. The most fun games for me were the swords games. Unfortunately, I was having some...

I've been away for awhile and my Gamertag has been changed to: theSteelPhantom I have just added Halo 2 to the lineup and this will probably be my only game in the box for the next couple months. I'll update my other live games list later. Please feel free to add me to your...

Are Yamaha HTRs still considered "bright"

I owned a Yamaha RXV-596 and 2400 and both seemed brighter than my current Denon 3805 to me. When matched with my Paradigm speakers, the Yamahas (especially the 2400) had an edge to it that caused listening fatigue. The only receiver I tried that seemed brighter to me was an Integra 7.1. Others...

Things to See & Do in Las Vegas?

The pirate show at Treasure Island is still there....sort of. The ships still battle, but the show is now called "The sirens of TI" and is mostly just a really bad pop music show (girls against the pirates) with some special effects thrown in. I never saw the original show (which was supposedly...

Things to See & Do in Las Vegas?

We just got back from vegas not too long ago. We went to see "O" and Mystere and, while both are great, I enjoyed Mystere more. Mystere is focused more on the performers and "O" is seems to be a little more focused on its amazing stage/pool. Star Trek Experience was good, but not great...

    Subwoofer crossover issue - Paradigm

Thanks John. I believe this answers my questions completely. There must be something wrong with the cutoff on the PDR subs. I guess I'll keep the knob at 100Hz until I get a better sub. I don't think I'll miss that 100-120Hz range on the LFE too much.

    Subwoofer crossover issue - Paradigm

I expected this. Until I can pinpoint what the problem is, I'm just setting the knob to what sounds best to my ear.

    Subwoofer crossover issue - Paradigm

All speakers set to small. YES Pre/pro xo set to 80 Hz. YES Sub level to -5 in the pre/pro. -3 DVD player set to bitstream. YES All dynamic range control circuits off in DVD and pre/pro. YES All bass limiters off in pre/pro. NONE LFE channel level set to max (i.e...

    Subwoofer crossover issue - Paradigm

I have had a Paradigm PDR-10 subwoofer for the past few years. I am using the receiver's crossover (Denon 3805) set at 80Hz. With the subs crossover was at its highest level (150Hz) low-mid bass was missing. I set the sub using an SPL meter and AVIA (even 4 dbs hot!). Now after moving the sub...

    Backyard deck - cost/ideas?

I am hoping to add a backyard deck to my townhome, but I have no idea where to start. I want to have an clue on things before I start calling contractors. The deck is going to be on a slight hill and will probably be around 16' by 18'. Nothing fancy. Any idea on how much this should cost...

Denon 3805 - set speaker levels without test tones???

I have been tweaking my new Denon 3805 receiver for the past week. When I go to change the speaker levels, I can't seem to do so without the internal test tones playing. Is there a way to shut these off while chaning the channel levels???

How's the remote of DENON AVR 3805?

I have used the Denon 3805 remote for the past week and want to get rid of it ASAP! To me, it feels very cheaply made. Volume is hard to control - if you press the volume button 3 times quickly, the volume will sometimes jump 10 db instead of 1.5db. The backlit symbols do not always line...

Denon 3805 sound vs Yamaha 2400 sound

John - I have Paradigm Monitor 7 v.1 mains, cc-370(?) v.2 center, and mini monitor v.2 surrounds. Before I had the 3805, I figured I needed to upgrade the speakers to get the sound I wanted, but the Denon fixed that. Bob - Its not that I really want a louder surround presence in...

Denon 3805 sound vs Yamaha 2400 sound

I watched "Brother Bear" today and it sounded great! The dialog was clear (much different than my experience with the 3802). The biggest difference was that the dynamic changes had a bigger impact. The 3805 amp just seems more powerful! I can't say that I like the back of the Denon any better...

Denon 3805 sound vs Yamaha 2400 sound

Well, I made the swap and WOW! There is such a big difference in the sound of the two receivers. So far the Denon 3805 is a perfect match for my speakers/room! Now I have only played a few stereo CDs, watched about an hour of TV in PLII and watched a couple chapters of Toy Story 2, but I...

Denon 3805 sound vs Yamaha 2400 sound

Brent - Thanks for the opinion. The sound you describe on the 2400 is pretty much exactly what I am experiencing. I hate jumping to the remote to turn the volume down during loud scenes. What was it that you liked better about the 2400 than the 3805? As for the sound on the 3805, are...

Denon 3805 sound vs Yamaha 2400 sound

Thanks Shane - I'll have to see if there is any way to try out the 3805 at home before deciding. Unfortunately, this was bought at Tweeter and I believe that I have the choice of trading in the 2400 and hoping the Denon smooths out everything a little or keep the 2400. I don't believe they...

So the dull voices remain.... I couldn't stand that with the 3802. That makes my decision harder....
