Ok, let's picture that in a different way. What we have wi the 550s are two speakers that are -3dB at 40Hz, according to the manufacturer specs. Let's charitably guess that they are -10dB at 25Hz, although it could easily be more. How does putting in a lot of power make them any less rollled off...
Is this the original 550 or the Mk II? Also - since you're using a match play format, are there going to be gimmes? Curtis - I've played La Costa. Great course, but I've had more fun elsewhere. Try La Purisima (in Lompoc) sometime.
According to the dictionary, to advertise is to announce publicly. It doesn't have to be selling anything, although, of course, it frequently does. You went to multiple web sites and publicly announced your intention to perform the tests you performed. Nothing wrong with that, but by that...
Curtis may not appreciate me sticking my nose in, but here goes anyway. Yes, of course Curtis knows he can get a recommendation from Hsu. Anyone can. The problem is - there are only so many places he can practically put his sub, given his life and his room. I've been there. It may not be...
OK - Between price and capabilities, it sounds like JVC may be the way to go. Besides pillarboxing, it sounds like I can get full aspect ratio control for non-enhanced widescreen movies. The problem is - JVC seems to have a lot of models. Which are the best, I wonder? Recommendations are...
Thanks for the suggestions. Of course, more are welcome. I was aware of the RP91 and Denon 4800, but decided they (especially the Denon) are too expensive for me. The RP91 is now a bit hard to find as well. Regarding JVC, I'd be interested in hearing more. I admit I'm a bit hesitant...
What players will compensate for televisions that lock in full mode with progressive input? Specifically, I know some players will "pillarbox" the material, or adjust the 4:3 image so that it has the correct aspect ration when displayed in full mode. I need to find out what players I can choose...
Do any of you using this player have a TV that locks into "full" mode with a progressive signal? If so, how do you handle that situation? The obvious way is to switch to interlaced, but is there a more convenient way to do it than just doing whatever it takes to make the switch. How about...
Aaron - Thanks for the reply. I've been interested in the 963 for a while, given all the accolades I've seen regarding its sound quality. Is the video quality really that good? I've heard stories about green bars (or something like that...) Have you experienced any video anomalies worth...
Tim has described this pretty well. However, the amount of pause can very between players and between discs. Also, a few players have buffers, but most do not.
I had similar problems one time with my system. It turned out someone changed settings on the receiver so that it wasn't set to auto-detect digital signals any more. Pro-logic was Ok, by DD didn't work at all. I set my Denon receiver back to auto-signal detection, and all was well.
I'm glad to see some discussion of the Sony 685 player. I've been wavering between several models, but things seem to be zeroing in on either the Pioneer 563 or Sony 685. Imagine my pleasure when I see a thread that discusses both. I'm glad to hear the comparison of SACD performance between...
After existing for a while with an interlaced player feeding my HDTV ready set, I'm about to buy a progressive scan player. However, I'm torn. I can get either the Denon 1600 or the RP91, but I'm having trouble evaluating the tradeoffs. RP91- Deinterlacing not as good as the 1600, but has the...
Carlo - Have you taken delivery of your 762 yet? As I recall, you were waiting for Yawa to receive a shipment. If so, please post your comments and impressions. Dave
Interesting coincidence, Carlo. I've been looking at putting together a smallish bedroom system. My dealer here in Southern California, the same as yours, I believe, has been recommending the NAD 742. I'd kind of like to buy the 762 and put my current receiver in the bedroom, but finances don't...
Yes. Thanks so much for all the effort you put into your reviews, Ron. I will miss them, but you deserve to be able to sit and enjoy a movie without worrying about writing the review.
