Does anyone have an idea what a reasonable selling price is for a Sony Wega XBR250? My neighbor might be interested, but I don't want to gouge him. Thanks for your help. Christian Edit: It's a 32 inch set.
Folks, listen to Obi...El Oso by Soul Coughing has some pretty intense bass and its a great (and eclectic) album.
Also check out To Be An Angel Blind, The Crippled Soul Divide by Tear Garden and Disco Volante by Mr. Bungle.
That Tear Garden disc especially has some serious extension!
I am in an apartment and I am constantly diving for the volume control. This is communal living and you have to consider and respect the people who are around you. Don't get me wrong, I am no church mouse, but I listen to movies at about 30 db BELOW reference when Im pushing it. I have an...
I remember someone commenting on the horizontal placement of speakers a while ago. The thought was that this placement changes the dispersion pattern from vertical to horizontal (or vice versa, I forget) based on their intended orientation. Long story short, it wasn't recommended. I would...
I am running a pair of Mozarts but I haven't filled them yet. Everytthing I have read suggests that there is a noticeable benefit when you do fill them. I just don't want to add 30+ pounds to something that I will have to pack up and move from time to time (I live in an apartment). Also, I am...
How about starting a collection that George Lucas can use to hire some screenwriters.
I appreciate the vision and these movies are clearly demanding, but c'mon George! Even James Cameron would be a step up in the dialog department.
;)
I guess I'm slow. I bought a Denon 3200 back in May, 1997...and I still have it. I bought a separate amp about a year ago, but the receiver only has pre outs for the L/C/R channels...and it "only" does Dolby Digital...and so on...and so on.
I have been looking for a pre/pro so I can replace the...
Close...a pre/pro is a preamp that also will do all of your surround sound processing, video switching, etc. Since a pre/pro is not capable of doing amplification, a separate amplifier is needed
A/V receivers with pre outs (the jacks that allow you to connect an external amp) can be used as a...
I found out that there was a Sunfire dealer near my house so I figured I would stop in and take a look...maybe they would be clearing out the Theater Grand II to make way for the III. Yeah right.
Still selling the II full price and didn't know much about the III at all. Surprisingly they have...
Thanks John and Stacey...it was the protective piece on the cable.
I don't feel stupid or anything. Honest. :b
I guess RTFM applies to me in this case.
I have finally gotten to the point where I would like to use my second available digital connection on my receiver (got a cd player with digital outs).
Problem is, connecting the optical cables seems harder than it should be. I am pretty sure I had them aligned right and everything...and I...
So I made a tirless effort to clear up the mess of cables behind my TV today in an effort to clear up some of the interference. I took Bob's advice into account and it seems to be all cleared up...literally.
No weird patterns. No unsightly mess.
Totally worth it.

What are some possible causes of this and what are some potential solutions?
I was getting some faint patterns/moving lines on my screen watching satellite and DVDs but was running all of the signals through my Denon 3200. When I ran the DVD direct via S-vid to the back of the set, presto! No...
If you are considering Dynaudio then you may also want to take a look at Vienna Acoustics (German speaks distributed by Sumiko.) I am running Mozarts with the Maestro center and Haydns in the rear and love them so I am biased.
The Mozarts are floorstanders with a narrow profile and they have a...
I have a 32" Wega and also have a large CC. The solution that provides me with correct positioning, stable placement, access to buttons and solves a small shielding problem is the Lovan Center Director
I am running the Vienna Acoustics Maestro which is comparable in size to the Paradigm 370...
Thanks for the input everyone...my unit is fully funtional and only has a small scratch on the top of the unit. Aside from that it is working great, fits in the rack and is already burned in. ;)
I bought one on impulse from Tweeter for 500 bucks...what do you think?
I needed a decent changer. I have been curious about SACD...multichannel doesn't really excite me though. I didnt check around though, do any research, etc.
Is this a worthy unit or could i do better in this price range?
Yes...I have one. It's a stand for your center channel that goes atop your tv. Lovan makes claims that "decoupling" the speaker from the set allows for greater imaging...blah blah blah.
It affords me a unique benefit: the shielding in my CC isn't perfect and having the Center Director keeps it...
I've been running a GFA-7500 for over a year now and am loving it.
150x5 is plenty for my speaks...plus I am in an apartment so I don't often (read: ever) have the chance to drive it hard.
Ahh maybe someday...:)
I thought the benefits of FireWire were:
1. Connect a digital camcorder
2. Fast software updates
3. Possibility for future digital connection of DVD-A/SACD players
Unless I am missing something, none of these would be a deal breaker in any of my new equipment considerations.
After the way people have GUSHED over the Anthem, I would say that its an awesome choice (I, of course, have only read about it). But, if you are looking for the greatest sonic benefit, you can't beat an upgrade in speakers. If you are finding the JBLs difficult to listen to, then the Studio 60s...
So much for the longest thread you ever started. ;)
It was starting to work on me too. Good thing I don't have a dealer nearby.

Edit: Wrong smiley face. :b
I think you should consider pulling your mains a bit in front of the screen. if you have them all equal then the imaging/soundstage will be affected since you will be getting reflections off the TV screen.
I think that's right.
Someone back me up here.
Christian
I saw your post for amp suggestions and I think you will get better suggestions with a little more information. What are your plans...what equipment will you be running? SACD or DVD-A player? Does future upgradeability interest you? Do you want/need THX certification? The latest sound formats...
Well, you have some options in that category...what is your budget? what speakers are you planning to drive with it? With a little more information I think the folks on the forum can steer you in the right direction.
My nomination? This one:
It can be configured as a 5 channel amp that runs...
