Robert, thanks for the review. I think everybody was expecting a world class product, and this just cements that. To make a fine point, though, what you received was a commercially pressed BD...not a "screener" BD-R, correct?
Shrug. So many companies are 90% of the way there. You'd think one would add a recording feature to distinguish themselves.
I also just found the Telestar M12i. No FM and apparently only one (uncreative) programmable recording...but they're on the right track.
I wasn't sure where to post this. I am not looking for an AV component, but a self-contained, easily transportable FM/Internet radio that also supports timed recordings. So far the only thing I've found is the Sangean DDR-63, which is way over my price point, has lots of features I don't need...
@KLI: If there is a followup Universal deal, would you consider "The Last Warning" (1928)? Universal restored this film a couple years ago, and while I expect that silent films take a little more work to prepare, i.e. acquiring a soundtrack, KL had a surprisingly healthy silent output in 2018...
I live in the USA so can't recommend a service, but don't you think shipping each disk individually would cost a LOT more than the customs charge? Maybe there's a sweet spot between customs charges and shipping charges, i.e. shipping in sets of 3 disks?
I recently bought my first Flicker Alley title, J'Accuse. Haven't watched it yet, but am in the habit of scanning all new DVD/BD's for errors, hopefully to avoid getting stuck with coasters a few years down the road. The manufacturing quality was worse than expected...not horrible, but...
In a recent reply on the moderated thread, MisterLime responded that the BD rights to Fox's Nightmare Alley don't rest with Kino: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/community/posts/4392763/ . I thought I'd missed an announcement, but looked around and so far found nothing. Any guesses as to who...
While I'm happy to see Kino dipping into Fox's horror archives, might there be any plans to release titles that never made it to DVD, perhaps The Spider, Just Imagine, or Berkeley Square? DVD would actually be fine here, as I'd just like to see the films in circulation. (I'll omit Trick for...
I went looking for the original Universal Q2 report but could find only the Q1 Comcast report. Does anybody have a link to the original document?
BTW, for anybody pining for a BD of The Old Dark House, I would nag Kino. The Library of Congress has apparently had a restored version for...
I don't own DOFP but wonder if anybody would claify some technical points? Without re-reading the BD specs, I'm aware that one of its anti-piracy features is its extensibility, the studios' ability to use updated encryption keys which get loaded into the player when the owner inserts a disk...
Many thanks to all the Betty Boop researchers on this thread!
While not specifically an Olive Films question, does anyone own the Echo Bridge Betty Boop lunchbox? It's this item...
Does your mono comment also apply to the FM output? I suppose that explains why some of the shortwave manufacturers also sell an optional (mono) speaker? Hmm, yeah, I never considered that. And I've never heard shortwave through anything more than a cheap handheld unit, so the "big speaker"...
I've never had a real home audio/video system, but always had (or thought I had) a basic idea of what to buy. For fun, a few weeks ago I browsed the web sites for the usual suspects: Denon, Onkyo, Pioneer, etc. My plan had always been to buy a really nice shortwave tuner, which would also tune...
