This sounds exactly like the infamous Sony flicker caused by defective CRT's. In the case of Sony the impregnated cathode detached causing fluctuations in the grid voltage. This caused the grayscale to flicker green or red depending on which CRT was defective.
Hey only two days until Gregg does his thing with my new Sony KP-65WV700. I wasn't expecting to have the set ISF'd for about a year. I figured it would take that long for a quality ISF tech to come to Vegas. Looking forward to the experience Gregg!
I have the KP-65WV700 and the stability of convergence is amazing. I did two very slight touch-ups of convergence in the first week. In the last 1.5 weeks no convergence necessary. Something must be wrong with the set.

According to Sony the WV700 additions are double anti-reflective protective screen, Uniform Brightness Screen, Archromatic HD Microfocus Lenses.
The part numbers would need to be checked to verify these additions.

Steve, There are many workarounds to fit a large speaker on top. The top of the screen bezel is 3.3" deep. The bezel is .75" above the top of the MDF cabinet which extends back another 8" deep. So all that needs to be done is to raise the back of the speaker .75" to have a level platform...
The first thing I noticed was the cabinet. The silver plastic below the screen really stands out in the showroom but in my darkened living room no problem.
In fact the base matches the wall behind the screen to give what Sony calls the "floating screen" effect. ;)
