Jason, the reason why I'm doing this is because I want to see what it sounds like. In fact, I have a couple of decent Paradigm Cinemas I can use, so in fact I really don't have to invest anything. Given the responses to this thread so far, that's probably what I'll do.
The room is not a dance...
Absolutely correct--I am not talking about the former Nautilus but the latter (the 804, I think the forerunner of the 804S):

I'm planning to use those because (a) I have them and (b) I can't figure out how to...
I am leaning toward an Onkyo TX-SR707. I'm looking forward to giving all the Audessey bells and whistles a try.
I'm probably going to use B&W nautilus main fronts, Boston Acoustics wide fronts (already have those 4) and probably use a Paradigm Cinema 110 5.1 for the sides, backs, center and...
That's what I was beginning to think. So I've been thinking of another way to skin the cat:
Instead of connecting front speakers, connect the front L/R pre out to the old stereo amp (the Onkyo TX-SR 707 I'm considering does have these pre-outs) and use the Onkyo's main amp for all the other...
Does anyone know if the pre outs common to mid-range ($400-700) receivers output signals that are fed to the receiver in digital form (i.e., HDMI in, optical/coax in)? Some manuals suggest that only analog input signals are output.
I'm trying to make tandem use of a decent 2.0 amp/speaker...
A quick add: I just noticed that the Onkyo 706 is now (maybe always was) $500 at Amazon. I also noticed that the 707 (looks like a bit more Audessey functionality plus 7.2) goes for only about $40 more. Is this a wise step up for the price?
1. Yes (oops), I meant the TX-SR706. I've just looked at the owners manual, and that is exactly what I am hoping will work for me. It has a Zone 2 line out that outputs an analog stereo signal. I have an older but still pretty good stereo system in the same location as the video setup (Arcam...
I am building up to a home theater in my family room (about 20 x 25). I presently have a Sony 60" LCD WEGA ( a few years old, but works great) working through a free (!) cheap Yamaha 5.1 system that I plan to dump. I just got a PS3 for Blu-Ray (really awsome picture). Now I need to work on...

My newbie status will be showing here: Can you use both the optical and analog audio out connections at the same time on DVD players, cable boxes, TV's etc.? Or does plugging one type in usually disable the other? I am trying to run two audio systems with my home theater: an expensive...
