Is there enough resolution in the original negatives to take advantage of 4k vs. HD?

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Torn Curtain -- in 4k UHD

Didn't this film, as well as Marnie, use quite a bit of difussion? The images that come to my mind when I think of it always seem slightly hazy...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Rear Window -- in Blu-ray

Just watched the movie yesterday at a local theater from a DCP. The quality overall seemed good, but every now and then, inferior quality shots appeared. Then the quality would get back with the next shot change, and then, sometimes the film used again the "bad looking" shot (of course, covering...

UHD Review A Few Words About While we wait for a few words about...™ The Godfather(s) -- in 4k UHD

Reading here that the "Coppola Restorations" blu-rays were a little too red drives me crazy. I paid good money for them, and they were supposed to be the definitive edition, representative of a very careful restoration... Why the hell were they too red??? Do we have to buy the movie once again...

    Your thoughts on Kino-Lorber Blu-rays

I recently bought and watched Kino's blu ray edition of Three Women, directed by Ernst Lubitsch. I really enjoyed the film! Because of some negative comments I had heard, I was expecting a minor or even boring Lubitsch, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I was entertained all the way...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ Dracula aka Horror of Dracula -- in Blu-ray

Although the color timing seems correct in the Warner Blu Ray, where the Lionsgate disc was way too blue, I'd say that the shadow detail was better in the UK edition, dark areas don't look as crushed in it as they do in the US disc.

Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about…™ A Night at the Opera – in Blu-ray

One Marx aficionado discovered that a print at Hungary's national film archive has a few bits of extra footage that aren't available anywhere else. Apparently he let WB know about this, but his discovery was met with total indifference. It's such a shame: if the extra footage is there, it would...

A Few Words About A few words about…™ Cinema Paradiso – in 4k UHD

It's interesting, I liked the Director's Cut. I watched it before I watched the theatrical version, and the latter one seemed to me hollower by comparison, story-wise.

A Few Words About A few words about…™ Libeled Lady – in Blu-ray

The first reel looked far worse than the rest of the movie in the DVD. Did they use a better source for that for this restoration?

    Issue with projector JVC RS35

Thanks a lot for your answer! I'm using the "normal" preset for gamma, the iris is stopped down to -6 and color saturation is at -10. The lamp is working in eco mode (I don't remember what the name of the preset was, but you know what I mean, it's the "saving energy" mode: since the projector...

    Issue with projector JVC RS35

Hello everyone! I have a JVC RS35 projector, and I'm very happy with it so far. My only complaint is that sometimes, when a single shot includes very bright areas next to very dark ones, the light from the bright areas seems to affect the darker areas, making them look slightly washed out. It...

La Belle Noiseuse Coming in Early 2018

I loved Cohen's blu ray of this (the transfer is superb), but I wonder about the aspect ratio. Was it originally conceived to be shown in 1.37:1? I mention this because in two different moments of the film, one can clearly see a boom mic in the lower part of the screen, it's quite distracting...
