I have been buying DVD's since 1999, and I never seen so many DVD's that I want released on one day. I think my CC will melt on that day Posted Image

No kidding, I've never had so many individual new releases to purchase on release day. I just added two more this morning, and I may add another one (I'm still undecided on "Major League")
    [*]
  1. Amadeus (1984): Director's Cut (2-Disc Set)
    [*]Boomerang (1992)
[*]Grease (1978): Collectior's Edition (Widescreen Version)
    [*]Hard Day's Night, A (1964): Collector's Series (2-Disc Set)
    [*]Grifters, The (1990)
    [*]Heavenly Creatures (1994)
[*]One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975): Special Edition (2-Disc Set)
[*]Singin' In The Rain (1952): 50th Anniversary Special Edition (2-Disc Set)
    [*]Swingers (1996): Collector's Series
    [*]Trading Places (1983)
[*]True Romance (1993): Unrated Director's Cut (2-Disc Set)
    [*]Unforgiven (1992): 10th Anniversary Edition (2-Disc Set)

A good selection, and I'm glad a lot of people will be pleased, but I won't be buying any of them. The only two I'd be tempted by are Amadeus and Singin' In the Rain, and since I already have these and I've promised myself only to buy a new version if it's totally and outrageously better, I'm not going to duplicate items in my collection.

Gosh, only 6 titles for me that day:

A Hard Day's Night
Mary Tyler Moore: Season 1
Murder by Numbers
Singin' in the Rain
True Romance
The Unforgiven

Of course, 4 of those are doubles and 1 is a 4-disc set...

Could be a very expensive day, indeed.

And Jesse, maybe I'm an idiot, but I don't understand the Village People reference.
War doesn't determine who is right. War determines who is left.

The day Can't Stop the Music was released was the greatest day in the history of DVD releases! Nothing else can top it (except maybe Thank God It's Friday!) Posted Image

Man, I just bought One Flew Over The Cuckoo's nest about a month ago. I will upgrade though b/c it is one of my all time favorite's.

Also, True Romance, Trading Places, Swingers, and Amadeus I will be getting.
I have seen Larry David in action, and that man is an animal, and he has to be stopped.

The greatest day in the history of the DVD format was, and always will be, October 16, 2001 ...

(The worst day was April 4, 2000 ...)

September 24, 2002 can't hold a candle to October 17, 2000 or probably October 8, 2002 this year. Posted Image

Okay, I'll bite. I'm new, and I've been buying DVDs since August of 1997. I tried searching the software archive for the dates, but nada. What, pray tell, came out on those memorable dates?

But back on topic, 9/24/02 is pretty nutty, followed closely by 8/6/02 in number of dvd picks released:

9/24: Amadeus, A Hard Day's Night, Heavenly Creatures, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Swingers, Trading Places, True Romance. Total titles, 7.

8/6: Clash of the Titans, Lord of the Rings: Theatrical Cut, Simpsons Season 2, Star Trek II, Time After Time, V: The Final Battle. Total titles, 6.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but is Amadeus the first WB reissue of a former flipper in RSDL? Good omen for Goodfellas and The Right Stuff!

Back on my meds,

CS

I'm guessing that Joseph was referring to the birth and death of DiVX!

If so, then I can't disagree!

Geez ... This will probably be a little anti-climatic, but here's what I was referring to:

DVD'S WORST DAY:
April 4, 2000 : The day that The Phantom Menace was issued to VHS, VHS Widescreen, overseas LD, and overseas VCD. LucasFilm stated that there would be no Phantom Menace DVD "for the foreseeable future ..."

DVD'S BEST DAY:
October 16, 2001: The day the format was formally introduced to the Star Wars franchise, with the (then) catalog release of The Phantom Menace to DVD.

In retrospect though, I have to agree with Aaron Silverman
above that "The Day DIVX Died" may have been a much more memorable day for the DVD format....

But I didn't buy "Phantom Menace" because Lucas tweaked it from the theatrical version, so he would've been better off releasing it the same time the VHS came out.

9/24 is nice, but I will be getting only 3 titles:
Beavis and Butthead
Unforgiven
Swingers

8/6 is far worse

LOTR 2-disc Widescreen
The Simpsons Season 2
V The Final Battle
Hot Shots
Hot Shots Part Deux
The Jefferson's Complete First Season
Sanford and Son Complete First Season

Also, 8/20, 8/27, and 9/3 have 4 titles each. Thats 19 titles in less than a month. Oh. My. God.
