So after seeing Fury Road I decided I wanted to pick up the original trilogy on Blu-Ray but I'm a little confused as to which version of the first film to go with: the Shout! "Collector's Edition" that came out earlier this month, the 2010 MGM release or the Warner Bros. 2013 Mad Max Trilogy release.

Anyone have any input?

For Mad Max 1, they all use the same high definition master.

For the Road Warrior, both the single disc and the Warner trilogy disc use the same master, but the Warner trilogy disc is encoded using the superior AVC codec instead of VC-1.

Thunderdome is the same master and encode for all.

I think it really comes down to special features and price. The video is basically the same for all except for the VC-1 release of the Road Warrior.

I'm going to wait and see about the upcoming anthology which includes all 4 movies. If they include the 3-D version of Fury Road, I'll pick it up. Otherwise, I'll stick to the original Mel Gibson trilogy release.

Thanks, Dan. I had heard that the new Shout release was a different master from the earlier efforts.

Sounds like I should go with the Warner trilogy disc, since it's the AVC encode. I'll probably pick up the stand alone release for Fury Road when it comes out.

The Road Warrior single disc was re-released back in 2013 with DTS-HD MA & an AVC encode. Same disc that is in the Trilogy set.
