There's something decidedly odd about the presence of people like Eartha Kitt and Mickey Rooney is what is ostensibly a Monty Python production, but with Erik the Viking, so be it.

Olive is releasing two of what are (at least to me) second string Python films, with Erik the Viking and Yellowbeard -- as you guessed, a looney pirate drama.

As with Erik, Yellowbeard has gathered an extended crew in the likes of the great James Mason, Cheech & Chong, Madeline Kahn, Peter Boyle and Marty Feldman.  An odd group of characters indeed.

Fans of the wickedly funny crew will probably wish to add both of these films to their libraries, but be warned, while Erik can hold its own, Yellowbeard seems lost in its own sea.

Both look quite good on Blu-ray, but neither is great.

Pass / Fail - Pass (both)

great that these look pretty good. I'll be upgrading for sure! I'm the opposite, I can watch Yellowbeard every day for a week!

I read this is the uncut version of Erik, which is a must buy for me too. I'll wait for a price cut, maybe both for $35 shipped and I'm there.

I doubt these will really drop in price all that much in the future. $17 might be the bottom line for a very long time.

Yellowbeard is a big upgrade to the blu. Didn't look at Erik on DVD but I think it must be night and day since since the blu looks really good, especially close ups. Yellowbeard isn't as sharp. Glad I upgraded. Looking forward to Ice Pirates...

oh...really enjoyed the Yellowbeard trailer on the disc. Not much extras, but that's a good one at least. It has a few bits that didn't make the final cut of the movie, like the Creepshow trailer did. Shame they didn't put that documentary and some outtakes on the disc. I would have paid more for that.
