I'm very happy with picture when watching HD TV and am using Cinema mode with enhancements turned off. Having a bit of trouble turning the corner when watching Blu rays though....It's DARK and I mean DARK. I reset the player settings but that didn't help. I know generally speaking Cinema mode will darken a picture but not sure about this. It could be me adapting to a new TV but it just seems like I'm watching everything through a dark filter of sorts. Bright areas in the dark scenes do pop out and look good at the same time.

I'm hoping someone might know something about this TV or even Sony's Cinema mode on a model like this. If it's supposed to look this way then that's ok...I'd just like to know or if this Cinema mode is supposed to look this dark. I have a Samsung H5100 Blu ray player that I've had for close to a year with no problems...not sure if the two being different products might have something to do with this but wouldn't think so.

Maybe I can attach a couple photos if needed. Hope someone can help and thanks.

Sorry...not sure what that is exactly but did not see that in any of the menus or manual. Where would it possibly be so I can check? Thanks.

Gregg I was saying I'm not sure what ambient light is...just so you'd know I was replying to you.

Try turning off Dynamic Backlight Control for BD.

I didn't see in tech blurbs that it had an Ambient Light Senor(control)...but that doesn't mean it isn't there.

Schan there's a backlight control but not a dynamic backlight control and it defaults to "0" when in Cinema mode... I'll look some more for ambient light settings too.

Whoops...the backlight I'm talking about it is the one for the TV and not the BD and didn't see any backlight setting on the BD either.

Let me throw this in there again too....it could be me just not being used to a new larger and different brand of TV. Like I mentioned when watching a good HD show on TV I have to say it's really amazing...crystal clear and almost pops out of the screen even in Cinema mode. Hard to think something that looks that could change that much...I just can't see there's something wrong with the TV...hopefully.

UPDATE

Bought a Sony Blu ray player and it seems to have solved my "dark" problems. I think it was a compatibility issue using my Samsung BD player with a Sony TV. There's not a BIG difference like in night and day...well in a way it is because I'm good to go now...I think but I can see detail in dark areas where I couldn't before...not a lot but more the Samsung was showing. There was nothing wrong when I used it with my Samsung TV but there seems to be enough difference using it with my new Sony TV.

I was watching the movie 2012 and to me it was unwatchable...just to dark. Although there are some dark scenes in it I can watch it now without really thinking something's not right. Anyway I just wanted to post this to let anyone know I don't think there's anything wrong with either but maybe a matter of compatibility...Samsung products work better with other Samsung products and Sony with Sony instead of mix matching.
