I recently purchased a HK avr 1650, some of you may have read my other thread. The temporary speaker setup is working but I have run into a few issues with a couple of gaming peripherals now that I've added the receiver into the mix.My first issue is with my turtle beach headset. My TBs have both optical and aux (red/white) inputs. I've been using the optical lead straight from my TV until getting the avr, I loved this setup bc it sent an audio signal to both my TBs and my speakers at the same time, I just pressed mute on my TV and then only my TBs would get signal. My first attempt at using the TBs was with them still hooked to the TV, no signal. My second attempt was with the optical going from the TV to the TBs and out of them to the avr, no sound. My last attempt was with the optical going from the avr to the TBs, still no sound. My desire is to have a signal always being sent to the TBs and to be able to adjust the volume of the system speakers independently. How can I accomplish this?My second issue is with my Avermedia Game capture HD ii. It serves as a passthrough between my xbox and the TV or receiver. Every once in a while (once a week or so) the screen would blank and the TV would find the signal again and the rest was smooth sailing before I got the avr. Now I've had to disconnect it because the blinking has gotten so bad (up to 5x a minute). We've notice that its almost always when were streaming videos and never when I'm actually playing games. It should be noted that I've tried both component and HDMI connections between the Xbox and game capture, connection between the game capture and avr can only be HDMI. Is this some sort of auto signal detection that the avr has in place? How do I stop it?A thanks in advance for any solution or advice.

The first problem will only be solved with a higher end AVR. I'm actually shocked your TV allowed digital output...an the TV speakers still worked. Vast majority of TV...one or the other. Same with AVR. Unless you got an AVR with 2nd zone digital audio output over toslink. As for the other issue. Did you turn all this stuff off, before adding in the 3650?

To clarify it was an optical out to my TBs and my TV was powering my current 2.1 setup through a 3.5 jack. Its an HK avr 1650, not 3650. Idk if that makes a difference but it has 2 optical in and one optical out connections. It also has remote in and out as well as a trigger and those 3 are 3.5 mm but I don't quite understand those- unless they have relevance than I don't respect you to explain them. As far as shutting everything off, every last component was unplugged at first set up but I guess that means that only my first attempt was legitimate. I should note that in avr's settings it wouldnt let me select optical in until I plugged the optical cable in which leads me to believe that a complete shutdown may not be necessary.

What about using my TBs as a pass through? Idk if I'm using that term correctly but they have optical in and out so I should be able to hook one optical from TV to TBs and then a second from the TBs to an optical in on the avr. I was really confused why that option didn't work considering that in the avr's input settings you can switch from HDMI audio to pretty much any other audio including optical 1&2. I set it to optical 1 and it still didn't work.

The video issue with the blinking is 90% of the time HDMI handshake related. All modern devices use EDID. It is how DRM and HDCP function. Hot swapping(with some devices, this merely plugged into the wall) does not allow your devices to forget...and start anew.Case in point. I have a Pioneer DV 420 DVD player. Pioneer "blessed" it with automatic HDMI detection. Everytime I changed the AVR or TV, or moved it...it was a seance, rain dance and breaking out the Ouija board to get it working again. And are you saying your TV allowed the headphone jack to function...at the same time the toslink out worked? That is not "normal functionality"...and I didn't know any TV could do it. Cause like I said. Normally, choosing the toslink out disables the internal speakers(which kills the headphone jack).

(Giant shrug) I miss the analog age when all I had to do was plug it in and it was good to go lol and I'm only 24. So with the turtle beaches I'll try the toslink a few more times from TV to TBs to avr and if it doesnt work than I'll have to use the aux input from the avr to the TBs directly- got it.As far as the HDMI handshake, how do I make sure that happens. Keep in mind that it was doing it with both a composite video cable and HDMI (xbox to game capture) so that makes me think that the issue is related to the HDMI cable between the recorder and the avr. What are some tips to make sure it happens?

You got me on that one. Maybe the Xbox itself doesn't want to be recorded??????? (And yes, I know people do it, or there wouldn't be YouTube videos)Have you tried the Xbox forum?

Well the Xbox 360 I thought didn't have the protected HDMI. I remember reading that the ps3 had it but the 360 didnt. Maybe that was changed with a software update? And it still doesnt make sense that it would be having the same problem with the composite video cables as the protection isn't possible with them. I'm going to call avermedia tech support in th morning see if they have a solution.

So I sat down at midnight last night and I noticed that the toslink out connection was glowing. What the heck I said to myself, let's try it once more. So I plugged a cable into the toslink out to my turtlebeaches and tadaa. The speakers were still working and my TBs now have sound also. Then the next test: I pressed the mute button and the speakers were silent but my TBs were still playing sound. Yes.idk what was wrong the first time I tried it, maybe I had a cable wrong maybe a setting was incorrect. I'm just glad I don't have to mess with them or the cables anymore
