hi there im new to the forum and could use some help.i just installed a Yamaha v-377 system. I know it isn't the best but wasn't looking for the best. im pretty sure I installed it right .when I turn up the volume it turns off(just slightly annoying) and the first message is ck speaker wire. it will also turn off if during a movie a sudden loud sound happens .I've done some research that says the amp may not support it. ive trimmed the wires made sure all post where positive to positive and neg to neg. To be honest im a true novice at this subject so im asking for help. while im waiting on that ill do some searching.

Did you buy it new or used?Connect just a pair of speakers, run it 2.1. Swap in the other pair.If it shuts off on either pair of speakers, but not both...the speakers have a problem. If it shuts off no matter what...the AVR is defective.

The speakers it came with. What you are trying to do here is pinpoint the failure issue. Is one of the speakers bad...or is the AVR bad...?Troubleshooting is what you are doing. Was this a 1-box pre-package or separate boxes?

I would call Best Buy. Since this is all one box, may not matter if one speaker has an issue...or the AVR does. May swap the whole thing 100%.If you have confirmed there is no wire problem(including the wire itself. And no, not just the bare ends)...exchange it.(By the way. Have set a crossover yet?. Possible, shouldn't happen, but anything possible, where you might have the 5.0 portion running full range...causing the midranges to lose control...shutting down the AVR. You should have main/center/surround all set small, with the crossover north of 100. Whatever the choices are.)

In addition to what Sam suggested (in fact maybe before you do what Sam suggested), check to make sure there's not a small stand of speaker wire touching the opposite terminal. Even a single stand could cause this.
