Panasonic DMR-EZ47V (1 Viewer)

I own the above unit and it has stopped recognizing the remote. If i push the on button the recorder turns on and shows RC2, then turns back off. I've pushed the reset button, unplugged the unit, but nothing works. I can still play dvd's and record using the buttons on front of the unit behind the pane. How can I get the RC2 out of the system so I can use the remote to set up recording, play vcr or dvd and get into the setup to set time, recording time etc. I purchased a generic remote that controls 4 units, but it does the same thing as the original unit. When I push on, the RC2 shows up for a few seconds and unit shuts back down. Any help would be appreciated.
