Hello All. I am a longtime audio-neurotic, and 15y HT camp follower. I am currently going through a wave of heightened interest in all of the above because of the new horizons opened up by networking and computer audio/video. Recently set up a modest second home system (in SC) with Denon AVR-X4100W, Triton 7s and center speaker, SVS sub (no rear or surrounds yet), Oppo BDP-105D. Struggling with getting the Denon AVR to play airplay ( though no problem getting it to play JRiver Media Center).
Steamboat system is; Sony front projection, Pass amp, a pair of Carry tube amps, an old Hafler playing the center speaker, Sonic Frontiers preamp, Martin-Logan Speakers, old Muse sub, Bryston pre-pro (also old).
Both systems split time between music and video. I am fascinated at how good the Denon plus Triton sound is with CDs, but also with premium Pandora. Just beginning to spend time with Tidal, played from Mac>USB>Oppo with RCA analog out to AVR.
No interest so far in 3D. We like foreign movies, little interest in the various fantasy and boom-boom content. Use Netflix and amazon too much to qualify as a videophile.
I ski 60-80 days a year, fly and race sailplanes in the summer, try to ride my road bike 25-35 mi. 4-6 days a week in the summer. I am a retired neurologist.
