Hi,
I'm building my first home theatre, the house is at frame stage and the builder is letting me put in speaker, hdmi, data and tv cables(in 2 weeks).
The room is 6.1m x 3.7m as seen in the attached picture has a 30cm high platform at 2.5m from the rear of the room.

I have a Pioneer VSK-1016V that I'm happy with but no speakers.
*Thinking of buying the Selby in wall XQ8204 for the rear and side surround.

My question is, what do you recommend for the Sub woofer and would it be possible to put it under the platform at the center front or in the bulkhead above the screen? I've heard its best to keep it exposed in the room but i'd rather hide it.

I'm open to recommendations on 7.1 surround speakers also, I've been given a budget of $1000 for the speakers in total....

Thanks,

James

The best place will require a "sub-crawl" (look it up), but you can't do that until the room is complete. However, from the looks of the drawing, you really won't have much choice except the front wall, which is probably fine. There are in-wall subs; I'm not familiar with their relative performance, but the plus in your case is you'll get to plan for it in the framing phase. In the end, for a few buck more it's probably worth having a few jacks put in the walls, maybe one in each wall, and then using the one you want.

I'm one of those that's fine with 5.1, so my opinion is slanted, but that advice goes there too. It's really cheap to put in the wall-outlet for 7.1 and so you have it if change your mind. (It won't do you much good for the rear seats, but would enhance the front seating experience.

Oh, and as Sam always remind everyone, make sure you have the builder use acoustic drywall. (Where the heck is Sam anyway?)

I think that putting the sub in the front "stage" is a cool idea. I would agree with others that you should account for future expansion and put in more drops/conduits that you think you need now.
