I've always been a sucker for British programming, especially those that live in time of Dickens, Austen and others of their ilk.
Death Comes to Pemberley, based upon a novel by P.D. James, shares roots with the works of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, and blends them nicely with a murder mystery which takes place during, what I presume would be the reign of George III (or possibly IV).
I was going to sample the programming, which runs three hours (three episodes), somehow got sucked in, and needed to know where things would go.
One of the leads, Anna Maxwell Martin, does nice work here, but if you want to see something superior, grab the Blu-ray of Bleak House -- great Dickens.
Another very positive point here, is that with the advent of the digital age, DCtP has been shot using an Arri Alexa, a huge upgrade on the old UK standard of 16mm for broadcast work.
Vistas captured with the Alexa are magnificent, and details abound. I did find one tech element that troubled me a bit, and that was ADR, which could have been handled in a bit more bespoke manner.
For those counting, it's two hundred years since Ms Austen took quill (or pen) to paper.
While this may not be up to the standards of some other (and longer) UK productions, I'm enjoying it thoroughly, and find it worth the price of admission, which also supports PBS.
Recommended.
