The two feature film versions of Stephen King's first published novel, Carrie (1974), could not be more alike...
or more different.
Both are good, but for different reasons.
Kimberly Pierce's version is less sexualized, with far more background given to Carrie's mother, here played by Julianne Moore. It also has more background on telekinesis, which in the 2013 always brought to mind Kid Shelleen preparing himself for battle in Cat Ballou.
Both versions diverge from the novel in different ways.
That noted, the De Palma version is considered classic, and the two certainly make interesting comparisons.
Ansel Elgort's first feature role.
Shot with an Arri Alexa way back in 2013, the new 4k from Scream Factory from an MGM master, looks terrific in 4k, while not possessing full 4k resolution. It's fine. Nice color, black levels, and a terrific track.
In typical Shout/Scream fashion, some excellent extras.
Image – 10 (Dolby Vision)
Audio – 10 (DTS-HD MA 5.1)
Pass / Fail – Pass
Plays nicely with projectors - Yes
Makes use of and works well in 4k - 7
Upgrade from Blu-ray - Yes
Worth your attention - 7
Slipcover rating - 2
