Kirk Douglas leads a cast in one of those mid-1960s feature films for which someone thought that guest stars were needed for success.  I've always thought of that as odd, as the "guest star" concept seemed to be a TV thing.

"and Guest Starring..."

In this case we have Frank Sinatra, Yul Brynner and John Wayne.  Mr. Brynner at least gets a bit of screen time.

Photographed in Panavision, Kino Lorber has given us a very nice looking Blu-ray.  Color is strong, and appears accurate.  Grain structure looks to be from an IP, and works nicely.  A quality presentation.

Wonderful score from Elmer Bernstein.

Yes, completely agree with Robert's review. I was really not expecting much from this release, but was very pleasantly surprised at what a wonderful transfer Kino did with this title.

I agree about the "Guest Star" thing. It always struck me a TV thing and strange to see it on a theatrical feature.

I think that this film was a labor of love for Kirk Douglas and that part of getting financing was lining up some other box office draws. I recalls hearing Douglas say that he approached John Wayne about this and the Duke replied, sure, but you will do me a favor as well. Thus, we got The War Wagon.

"Guest starring" is wrong for a movie. The proper billing is "Special appearance by." Wayne is very good in his big scene at the concentration camp liberation.

How is the movie? I see that MGM HD has this in a few days.
