I am at wits end with my starter home theater package from amazon, the onkyo 7.1 htib. The receiver has been having a lot of hdmi issues and I am feeling it is time to move on. I will not be getting new speakers right away, so I want a receiver that can get me through a couple more months with the onkyos and be able to handle the upgrades if need be. I am looking at the Yamaha rx v675 and the sony str dn 850, $400 and $450 right now. I want to stay around that price range for the receiver, less if you think that I don't need that much. That being said, should I even worry about speaker upgrades at that point? Also, i like the idea of two subs, would adding the bic f12 be a good idea? I like the networking features and will be using mostly for tv but like it to sound good with music for the occasional party. Main connections will be with benq projector, xfinity x1, and wdtv.

Thanks for your response Sam, any thoughts on adding the second sub and if new speakers would be necessary?

Those speakers are horribly inefficient. Onkyo's 8507(something like that) came with speakers at a laughable 76db.My guess is yours are 79-82.Yes, eventually you want better speakers. "Age" of speakers being almost irrelevant.

1 sub or 2 is a matter of taste. I prefer tower speakers in all locations that can play to 40hz. Then one gargantuan sub...
